Any known mods to tweak the R3 LCD displays?

Post by Mistabeen »

As the topictitle suggests, are there any known mods or tweaks for the R3 LCD displays?
I'm loving my R3 but I can't stand to look at those displays too long, they tend to give me a headache. So I was wondering if anyone tried modding these.
I have found this online, but it's kind of permanent so i'd rather ask around first before i'd even attempt such a thing.
Any other ideas to make the displays less headache inducing are welcome :D

Hi Mistabeen,

well the first question is what gives you headache: the red color or just the fact of having black text over a lighted background?

If it is the background then the only way is the link ypu posted, but this may not function with all modules because some of them have the poalrization in the glass. I personally prefer inverted displays too when these are light emitting instead of having an illuminated background.

If it is the red color you may change the LED's to green or yellow but for these you must be good in modifying hardware. If you want blue or white LED's then you also need to change LED's powering circuit because of their higher forward voltage.

Maybe you could use colored transparent foils to reduce the intenity or color tone a little but this may be not of much help.

My best suggestion would be to use the software editor if you edit a lot on your R3 and have a PC in range!

Thanks for the advice Axxim.
I think the biggest problem is the combination of the red color and the brightness. I think they sort of get "burned" into my retina, when I focus my eyes on something else I have a hard time adjusting and then get a headache.
The software editor is the obvious choise here, but sometimes it's just easier/quicker to use the knobs.

I think I will try out with the easiest fix here and that is the colored foil, and see if decreasing the brightness helps. No need to break open my R3 when a simple cover could help ^^
