Can you use a controller (BCR200?) to edit the MicroKorg?

Post by muzboz »

Can you plug something like the Behringer BCR200 directly into the MIDI IN on the MicroKorg and set it up so that you can edit all the parameters of the MicroKorg all at once, from that external controller?

It's frustrating how you can't edit whatever you want, all at once...
...such as if I want to tweak the Cutoff and the Distortion at the same time, it's impossible, because they're on different Edit Select positions.

Is there a way around this? Thanks!

How to use a Behringer BCR2000 to control the MicroKorg

Post by muzboz »

OK, well I went ahead and bought a BCR2000, and set it up to control the MicroKorg parameters.

I explain how to do it in (possibly too much) detail here!
http://www.punknewwave.com/2010/06/how- ... 00-to.html

I'd love to know if there's a way to successfully send a Data Dump of the MicroKorg's current program's CC# values over to the BCR2000, so that all the lights and values update there. But I've tried doing it frmo the MicroKorg to the BCR2000, and I've tried making the Request Data Dump frmo the BCR2000 to the MicroKorg, and neither way seems to work.

Please do post how to do it if you figure it out!

Other than that, it works great! Makes the MicroKorg more like a MS2000R rack unit! Whoot!

Midi dump is shift-6 according to the manual, but I dont have a bcr, so you'll have to try it out for yourself!

Can't get DATA DUMP to work between MicroKorg and BCR2000

Post by muzboz »

Thanks! But yes, I've tried sending a DATA DUMP from the MicroKorg - and followed the instructions carefully many times (sending "1PRG" or "one single program"), and the BCR2000 flashes it's little MIDI lights at the top right to show that MIDI data whizzes through for a moment. However, none of the LEDs on the controller are updated at all. I wish it worked! But alas. It does not.

Anyone got any ideas? It would make this setup work perfectly if someone could make that work! :)

if the data dump worked it become BETTER than a MS2000R, because the knobs are never updated!

Good luck experimenting!

Come on Data Dump gods, smile down upon me!

Thanks! Alas, I have had no luck, or advice, on how to get this to work, yet!

Would love some step by step instructions by some MIDI / Korg guru out there!

Bueller? Bueller? :P

I'm sorry but I just think it isn't possible. Chances are that the functionality to dump the parameter positions just doesn't exist. Most synths aren't designed to work this way.

As it is, your BCR would work a lot better with software on the computer...
