HELP?!.. Questions about the R3.
I'm in a band and i'm looking for a smaller keyboard that would be easier to carry to practice/shows/etc. I've seen reviews saying that the build quality is poor and that it feels like a toy. Is this true??

it's plastic, but it doesn't damage easy.roddsnsney wrote:I'm in a band and i'm looking for a smaller keyboard that would be easier to carry to practice/shows/etc. I've seen reviews saying that the build quality is poor and that it feels like a toy. Is this true??

I've seen worse keys, but they're not the greatest. They're definitely usable with some weight to them, but the click fairly loudly.roddsnsney wrote:Thanks. Are the keys cheap feeling? Because they keys on my korg i have right now are pretty great, and i don't really want to downgrade.
They seem to be stronger than my Korg X50s though.
Also, what's your other korg? The R3 may not be able to fill its roles.

The keys on your korg _what_?roddsnsney wrote:Thanks. Are the keys cheap feeling? Because they keys on my korg i have right now are pretty great, and i don't really want to downgrade.
Keyfeel is quite subjective to the preference of the player, so it's best to judge this for yourself by actually playing one, since nobody can determine this for you. To some people, anything less than a weighted 88 keyboard is unacceptable. To others, the light weight synth action keybeds are much preferred to lugging around a huge, heavy keyboard and the lighter action is no hinderance whatsoever, even better for fast synth playing.
The Korg R3 is not a good replacement for a TR, not because the keys or quality, but because it's a different kind of synthesizer.
If you want something similar to the TR, but more portable, you should look at the X50, M50, Microstation, and PS60. You'll need carefully compare the sounds you find important to choose between them.

well, as xml said the r3 isn't a triton replacement in any way, it's a synth, it creates sounds from waves. you won't get realistic sounds from it.roddsnsney wrote:I've already looked at the PS60 before the R3 and decided that was the one i wanted.. but i have no idea when it comes out in stores or online.
the triton (and ps60) use samples to create their sounds, so you can have pianos etc.

Well it's not really how realistic the sounds are, i don't use but maybe 10 sounds at the most on my TR. I'm the vocalist for my band and i usually just record the piano track and play it over the pa system. So the lack of piano sounds is fine, i'll just use a midi a midi to record piano. But if the audio outputs did get damaged would it be hard to repair them?
I haven't heard of the outputs breaking regularly. Mine have slipped in slightly from the thing falling but they work fine...roddsnsney wrote:Well it's not really how realistic the sounds are, i don't use but maybe 10 sounds at the most on my TR. also, when I said realistic, I didn't mean how realistic the sounds are, I meant there are no real sounds. No instruments etc. at all. It's all synthetic electronicy type sounds that you can create.

if you just want a midi controller to control say a computer piano, there's better cheaper options out there.
