External Midi

Post by Jhovall King »

Hello people of the forums,

I'd like to ask a question about my korg TR.
I might want to buy an external midi-device, without a tone generator: probably something like the Yamaha SHS-10 Keytar (or another keytar which only generates midi). I'd like my korg to produce the sounds. Is this possible? I've read in the sequencer manual that I've to put my sequencer in the BTH mode for this, but since I am not a native english speaker I don't understand it exactly. Could you elaborate it for me.

Thanks in advance

If you're using an external MIDI keyboard to control the TR, then just plug it in and play. Make sure the MIDI controller is transmitting on the same MIDI channel as the TR's global channel (default is channel 1) if you want it to play exactly the same sounds as the TR's main keyboard plays.

You don't need to set your sequencer timbres any differently - timbres set to INT or BTH will respond to MIDI input on their respective channel. EXT and BTH are only really relevant when you want to control external sound modules that generate sounds, or send your sequence to another sequencer for example on a computer.

MIDI is all about controlling one thing with another, so it is definately possible - that is what MIDI is for!
