Using an M-Audio EX-P Expression Pedal

Post by redkeys88 »

For my PA-50, I connected an M-Audio EX-P Expression Pedal. I want to use it as a master volume pedal. There are a few problems and I am trying to find out if the pedal is compatible with the PA-50. The first problem is that the max volume is about 50% and the second is that pushing down (forward) the volume goes down instead of up which is backwards of the way you would think it works. I called Korg support and they did not know if the M-Audio pedal is compatible. I tried reversing the polarity, etc and the problems are same.

Were you ever succesful in finding out which expression pedals work on the Korg? I have a Triton Extreme and cant seem to get my cheapy Zoom expression or my equally cheap Boss FV 50 L to control the master volume or individual timber volume in a combination. I think it may be the pedals i am using.

Any ideas?

Hi! You must use KORG pedals!!! I have EXP-2 - Expression/Volume Pedal and it works perfectly!!! EXP-2 is 60 Euro and XVP-10 is about 140 US dollars Best regards!!!

I have subsequently discovered the secret to making an expression (volume) pedal work on the Korg Triton Extreme :D. For the expression pedal to work you need a STEREO cable. With my stereo cable in hand I am able to get the following:- Boss FV 50 L, a cheapy little Zoom pedal, Ernie Ball Jnr all to work perfectly. Simply connect the expression pedal to the keyboard using the stereo cable, go to the global mode screen and select the input device, select volume and there she goes. To control only selected timbres of a combi, you need to go to the Midi screen, MIDI4 screen allows you to select which timbers are effected by the pedal. So now you can swell in strings, pad, motion at your leisure. I am now also using a switch to control arpegiator tempo’s. Stoked!

Some pedals do not have an expression socket but can still be used to control the keyboard. How:- take a stereo cable and connect a stereo jack to the one side – this will be connected to the keyboard. Then solder two mono jacks to the other side of the stereo cable; connect the one jack to the input and the other to the output socket of the volume pedal to create the same feed back mechanism that will allow the pedal to send a signal to the keyboard. (You may have to try swop the two jacks around since the pos and neg does matter, so experiment a little)
