My trinity has v1.0

Post by Hexfix93 »

Is it worth updating, because i dont really see anything wrong with it, what do the new updates offer?

Anything worth the trouble?

does it make the synth sound better?

I'm no expert on what all the updates do but there have been enough of them since v1.0. At the very least I would expect that the newer versions should improve stability. If you do decide to update, make sure your floppy drive is in good working order and has no issues!

As far as I remember V1 had severe performance (speed) issues. Not that V2 or V3 are lightspeed, but I seem to remember quite a significant improvement when I upgraded (almost 10 years ago). Plus the 6 voice MOSS board is supported in V3 only, I believe...

Stability, I don't know. With SCSI (I have the HDR option) I managed to crash the board quite frequently (mostly bad disks or decaying CD-ROM drives), otherwise no issue with stability for me, ever. It is true however, that I've been on V3 since almost the very beginning. Sound-wise I don't believe there's any difference.

The latest OS for all Trinitys without the MOSS-TRI expansion board is 2.4.1

For any Trinitys with a MOSS-TRI board inside them the latest OS is 3.1.2.

OS 3.1.2 is identical to 2.4.1 except for MOSS-TRI support. That's the only difference between the two.

From OS 1.0 onwards I believe LCD refresh speeds were made much quicker with later OS versions, and other functionality was added.

I'd definately upgrade if you can. Plan it carefully, though. Read all the instructions beforehand and carry them out to a 'T'. You will need a floppy disk drive on your PC/Mac and two floppy disks to extract the new OS data onto, before installing them onto your Trinity.

If you want the latest OS and a rundown of the procedure let me know - I've installed the OSs onto the Trinity many times.

I've tried several times to upgrade my Trinity to 2.4.1 from 2.2.0 and I get an error every single time. I used fresh disks for each attempt and followed the instructions carefully. Any suggestions, Timo?

ok disabled my onboard fd controller in my bios, now usb floppy shows up as A:.

Installed 2.41 no prb.

It did change my sounds for the worse, the fx settings are kind of strange on my older patches and sounds..

That doesn't sound good... (literally :) ) Have you initialised/reloaded all programs/samples (this latter only if you have PBS, that is...)
Sorry for this, I've never heard of such a problem. How would you describe the change a bit more specifically?

ITs minor, and has to do with the delay settings on the solo board.

not hard to fix, i updated the os, then loaded my sounds back in.

OK, so not a big deal, finally - and you haven't lost anything on the way!?

Good to hear, I was feeling a little uncomfortable that we did not advise against the upgrade yet it did something irreversible to your Trinity... I was just about to dig out all my old files to find OS 1.0 if I could.

I'm glad we didn't break anyting.
