Best bag/case for M50 88

Post by writer_dad »

Hi, an uber-newbie here. Just bought a Korg M-50 88 and am now trying to figure out what a good gig bag or case would be?

I live in the U.S. and don't plan on traveling with the keyboard. I basically need something that will allow me to carry the Korg from my home to wherever I'm playing.

Are there good gig bags or cases under $200? I see many that are more than $400.

There are basically two types of carryovers you can get for your M50. A hard case or a bag with padding. If you are sure you won't be handling your M50 too much and are on a tight budget, a fabric bag may be the solution. But the best thing is a hard case. The best of them have handles and wheels, making carrying your keyboard around pretty easy. A very good manufacturer is SKB. I have one for my M50-61 and is very nice. Lots of padding inside, and since is designed to fit much more thicker keyboards, it leaves plenty of room for cables, pedals, etc.

Here is a link for Guitarcenter keyboard bags: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Search/Defa ... &Search=Go

And hard cases: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Keyboard-Ca ... ig-Bags.gc

Prices ranges are wide, so find the one that fits your bill and you can't go wrong with it.

I guess my question is, is the extra space a problem? By this, I mean, a Korg M-50 is 12.9 inches wide and some of these gig bags are 18 inches wide.
All that leftover space, is that bothersome?

You won't find a bag that will fit the M50 snuggly. Maybe a bag for other thinner instrument might fit, but a keyboard bag must fit standard sized keyboards, which are wider.

I find the extra space pretty convenient, since that way I don't have to carry another bag for cables and pedals. Just keep loose parts in a smaller cloth bag (so it won't hurt the M50) and you are good to go.

I'll take a pic of my SKB case with the M50 plus gadgets so you can have an idea. Just have to wait until the end of the week, since I'm not home now.

I chose a Gator hard case for my m-50 73 key. it too has the wasted space issue, I took some of the encapsulated foam from the shipping material, placed it in strategic spots around the perimiter of the case inside, and now it fits perfectly without slopping around. there are tie downs as well built into this case. Since I am already carrying a bag for all the cables, pedals, chords, for a keyboard plus bass guitar, I don't use the case for carrying anything but my baby.

The case weighs more than the keyboard itself, which is somewhat of a pain, but not overbearing. It's not like carrying around the weighted keyboards of yesteryear that you needed a Mack Truck to haul around. and it has roller wheels, when I have a long haul. I recommend the Gator, and looked at the SKB as well. both respectable in my book.

Best soft case w/wheels for 88?

Post by stharp1234 »

I just wish someone could post links to and exact bag they know of that I could order. It take so much time trying to find a softcase with wheels that fits the M50-88 best.

I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect case for my 88 and never found one. The slims are about an inch or two too short because of the pitch / mod stick. I ended up just using my gig skinz i used for a motif 88. I had TONS of extra room but didn't want to shove accessories in and risk breaking something.

I went to home depot and bought a big piece of foam insulation (which is really heavy-duty) and cut it down into 3 long pieces to put in the front and back of the keyboard and 1 short piece for the side. I used a hack saw so it was kind of messy and crumbly so I got an old bed sheet and wrapped the pieces up and staple-gunned them. But the staples were coming out so finally got packing tape and completely wrapped the pieces in tape.

I generally go about things the hard way..... but in the end it works out well. Sure it looks like I'm smuggling kilos in my case, but whatever.

I'll try to remember to post a pic of it.

I'm still bummed I can't find a case that is as small as the keyboard.

Yamaha used to make custom cases for their boards that was always snug and light..... I had one for an S-80 and P-80. I wish Korg or anyone would do that for the m-50 -88.

Stick around this forum long enough, you will learn that its a give and take kind of thing. Not all just take. We've given you some ideas of what worked for us, but that doesn't and shouldn't replace you doing your own work as well.

Exactly. What works for use maybe doesn't for you. We showed you the road, you muse take it and decide for yourself. Give guitar center a visit and see for yourself. If you have doubts about a specific product, is better to do physical shopping instead of ordering online.

I would go with the SKB 1SKB-C3613. It's less than $150! South-Pak has a good collection of long cases.

Wow, lots of reply to my original query. Mocando, you said you'd take a pic of your case with the keyboard inside. If you get a chance, can you do so, please?

Looks like a custom built case. Many people build custom cases for some models. Can't tell for the image if the size is exactly to fit the M50 or a standard size on which the M50 will fit, but still will have lots of room. Ask the seller if is built for the M50.

Looks neat, though.

Hi Martin,

I am planning buy a case for Korg M50- 61 note. I checked the SKB bags for 61-note keyboard luggage(from your post on this discussion)

I am from India, I'm planning to buy online (Suggest your opinions on ordering online)

And one more query I have Roland KC350 speaker used for Korg M50. I would like to have case for this speaker. I checked with SKB they said Roland speaker they are not doing any cases.

Regards,
Arun
