Velocity control feature. Page 106 of manual.

Post by PeterA »

I was wondering if anybody knew the reason why the velocity control function on the PA800 only works in the split keyboard mode with LOWER keyboard scanning mode selected? This is a real shame as I want to use the manual bass feature with UPPER keyboard scanning. When used in this way I find it very difficult to activate any of the fill buttons at the correct time, and it would be great if I could do this using the velocity control feature to activate the fill sequence. I know I could do this with an assignable foot switch pedal, but I don't have one. Is there a good reason this restriction exists? I can't imagine why from a software standpoint.

Thanks in advance.

Is this question to tough?, I would have thought that the assembled brains here would have at least something to say in response to this question.

No it is not a tough question.
The manual clearly states:-

• It does not work in FULL Chord Scanning mode, or in SPLIT Keyboard Mode, with the UPPER Chord Scanning mode selected.

None of us know why Korg implemented it this way so I don't see how we can answer your question.
It is never necessarily true that software changes are simple and there may be significant reasons why they made this "restriction" as you call it - or maybe they did not consider that it was required/necessary in view of the flexibility of foot pedals (EC5, MIDI etc...)

EC5 is a great solution - everyone should have one

Thanks for your response and I apologise if my message appeared a little crusty. I wasn't seeking a solution just an opinion on why the velocity control feature was like this, bit frustrated really that I can't use it the way I wanted to. Thanks again for your response.

Hi Peter

No apology necessary my friend and fully appreciate your frustration related to your specific requirements.

I can only strongly recommend investment in an EC5 or MIDI controller pedal to ease your frustration - I have both and absolutely love the freedom of having all those instant controls at my feet.

I have the Korg EC5 and a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI foot controller.

Cheers

Hi rock_star
It's basically a way of triggering certain performance functions, which normally require you to take your hand from the keyboard and press a button on the panel. eg fill1, fill2, fill3, stop/start etc. This only works when in split keyboard mode when playing a style. It is done by specifying a key velocity value, above which the function is triggered. Therefore by playing a chord/key hard (above the specified velocity value) in the chord scanning area, you can trigger a fill pattern for instance. This will only work when the chord scanning area is set to "lower" or "no chord scanning" mode and always to left of the split point. What I required was that it worked in "upper scanning" mode to the right of the split point also, but alas Korg have decided not to implement it that way  . Anyway hope that answers your question and it's all on page 106 of the manual if you have access to one.
