Sonar and M50
I am complete newbie to all of this....I am able to record one midi track and one audio (vocal) track in Sonar. Now, when I insert another MIDI track in Sonar, and select a string program in M50, I only press record on the new MIDI track (strings), but then I hear the strings playing what I recorded on the first MIDI track. How do I assign the new MIDI track to record the strings? I know this is probably an easy question for most of you, but I am struggling mightily. It took me most of the day just to set this whole thing up and being able to hear MIDI and vocals. The rest of the day I spent figuring out how to put reverb on my vocals. It's fun when I get things figured out, but was hoping to get some help and avoid hours of struggling. Thanks much.

From what I've gathered on my own so far, I need to define the M50 instrument in Sonar with a .ins file???? Then assign all the output channels to the Korg M50???? Then I will be able to select the Korg's sounds from Sonar....but what prog or combi do I set on the M50 when recording/playing back??? This is very confusing to a newcomer. Have found a .ins by searching the web, but it only had the progs, no combis. Anyone have a complete .ins file for the M50? Or, how do I create one? Someone throw me a life preserver, quick!!!!

You don't need a .ins file; all that does is show you the program name within Sonar, which isn't really necessary and is also incorrect if you change or move any of the programs.
Your problem is that both MIDI tracks are using the MIDI channel that's used by the strings program on the M50. First off, how have you got the M50 set up? You either need to record its audio if you want to use program mode or use a combi or sequencer song with multiple programs on multiple channels and send MIDI to the M50. If you're sending MIDI from two MIDI tracks to the M50 on the same MIDI channel, how will the M50 know which one should play the strings program and which one should play some other program?
