Screaming Lead and polyphony issue!

Post by Rishat »

Hay friends.. I have made this screaming lead patch in a combi but having polyphony issue. I have used 1 guitar lead program (screaming lead guitar) with 2 oscillators, 2 drums and arpeggio A and B using a distortion guitar and a string respectively, thats all. As I have created this combi from an existing combi where there were 2 keyboards and 1 guitar which I have muted/turned of from all possible location (page select locations). But its still eating the polyphony.. Any idea how to increase the ployphony? Note that the problem persist only for the first oscillator of the screaming lead guitar. When I am missing the note I can hear the 2nd oscillator which probably a sine wave or something but not the 1st. Everything else (drums, arp and other timbers) is going just fine. I can upload the combi somewhere if anyone insists. Please follow the youtube link to get the idea of my patch.. :)

AFAIK the only place to actually turn off a timbre and stop it from using any polyphony is to set the track status to 'off' rather than 'INT'.

Strings can use a lot of polyphony if they are played quickly and have a long release time. Especially so if there are several layers.

The first thing I'd suggest is try limiting some parts to just OSC1 or OSC2. Sometimes programs have an oscillator active but muted or very quiet - and this still uses polyphony. Sometimes a program will sound just fine with only one oscillator active.

Another thing I'd look out for is long amplitude envelope release times on the arpeggiated parts. You can use the tone adjust page to reduce the release time.

You probably don't have to do much to reclaim polyphony. In many (but not all) cases just using a single oscillator from a program (instead of two) can halve the polyphony requirements of that program.

Think you already got this, but just to be sure: muting a timbre does NOT affect its polyphony...
