yamaha styles are created on 16 tracks, but only 8 midi channels are used.
Ch 9 Percussion
Ch 10 Drums
Ch 11 Bass
Ch 12 Acc1
Ch 13 Acc2
Ch 14 Acc3
Ch 15 Acc4
Ch 16 Acc5
What you'll find is when you change a .sty to .mid all 16 channels are used.
For variations & fills yamaha sometimes puts the lowest note ( bass note) on a seperate track ie in an arpeggiated piano track, the C1's may well be on a seperate track from the rest of the arpeggio. It's usually pretty easy to recognize these.
Not always, but a lot of the time you'll find that track 8 midi channel 8, if it contains data, will be bass note for what's on Track 16 , midi channel 16.
7=15
6=14
5=13
4=12
3=9 ( Bass Channel)
Don't forget to swap midi channels 9 to to 11 & vice versa.
Yamaha Bass =11
Korg Bass = 9.
That's the first thing I always do.
Next you'll have to check Intro's & Endings Section
Intro A is simple, usually just a drum intro.
Intro B & C , Endings ABC may be a bit more difficult.
The may well contain 2 lots of data ie cv's for min & maj. spread over the 16 tracks.
Tracks 9 12 13 14 15 16 are usually the maj intro ending tracks, tracks 3 to 8 min tracks.
I do a a copy of the intro & ending section & paste it to the end of a the midifile. Then I delete the min tracks from the maj section & the maj tracks from the min section & the min section becomes i1cv2, i2cv2 etc.
Next I change the midi channels 3 thru to 8 to channels 9,12 to16 .

When I export a Yamaha style as a midi file. I noticed that some of the events are on weird channels sometimes channel 2,3 or 4. I think they are Accompaniment events which should be on channels 12,13,14,15 or 16. Can some one explain why.
