Finally Got RADIAS, Question About Step Sequencers & MID

Post by MIDI_Thru_Kid »

Ok everyone, I'm really excited, I got a BRAND NEW RADIAS rack off of eBay, and the keyboard second hand! I really like it.

My gear setup is as follows:

KORG RADIAS
Roland JX-3P
Roland TR-505
Roland TR-626

Ok, so here's my question. Let's say I wanted to play the TR-505 from RADIAS' keyboard. No problem, just MIDI OUT to TR-505 MIDI IN, adjust Note Numbers so they are out of the way of the RADIAS' drums, adjust the MIDI channels on the (let's say 1st) timbre, and wala! I can play the TR-505's drums, PLUS RADIAS' drums! COOL! Now, how do I record the RADIAS' Drums PLUS the TR-505's Drums with the RADIAS' Sequencer? Because I tried doing it the normal way, you know setting timbre 1 up as a drum timbre, then recording the Sequence into Step Sequencer 1, hitting RADIAS drums and TR-505 drums, etc. But THEN, ONLY RADIAS drums are heard, it didn't record the TR-505's Drum Notes?? What is THIS???

Next, I decide to try with the JX-3P. Much simpler, just turn down the volume of the RADIAS, hook up RADIAS MIDI OUT to JX-3P MIDI IN, turn on the MIDI switch in the back of the JX-3P, and record as normal. STILL NO RESPONSE TO THE STEP SEQUENCER FROM THE EXTERNAL MIDI DEVICE???

I'm really confused you guys, does the RADIAS' step sequencer NOT transmit MIDI data, or what?

By the way, my setup is as follows:

RADIAS Midi OUT to JX-3P MIDI IN. JX-3P MIDI THRU to IN of THRU BOX. THRU #1 to TR-505 MIDI IN. THRU #2 to TR-626 MIDI IN.

Thanks :)
GEAR I HAVE: KORG RADIAS Keyboard, Roland JX-3P, Roland TR-505, Roland TR-626, Yamaha DGX-220, Yamaha Trombone

Nevermind! I just found it.

For those of you looking at this post saying, "Huh, I have that problem too!" go to the GLOBAL PAGE #1, and scroll until you see "Position." Set it to "PostKBD." This will transmit Sequencer and Arpeggio information to the External MIDI device(s).

AWESOME!! I like that the RADIAS has that option, actually. I LOVE MIDI! :D

Thanks MIDI Thu Kid;

That was exactly the problem I surfed over here to straighten out. I have a hard time with manuals and when someone has a practical example of a problem in a context I am stuck in, that allows me to understand the solution. Now my Virus and my Radias are getting along great.

Blessings,
Damon :D
