Please Help Me Recover My Custom Made Sounds!!!

Post by gusanitoverde »

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
1. I had an 01/W pro many years ago with custom made sounds.
2. Floppy Drive in the Keyboard got old and damaged.
3. 01/W had the floppy drive replaced by Korg with a new one.
4. Korg said that the new floppy was "newer", but "compatible".
5. Having my floppy drive functional, I backed up my custom made sounds (using 2HD Floppies).
6. Eventually I got rid of the keyboard and I kept couple backup disks (2HD).
7. I got a new 01/W pro with the original floppy drive.
8. The Keyboard and Floppy Drive are pristine and fully functional. I tested the Floppy Drive with the original sounds disk from Korg (2DD Floppy Disk).
8. I am trying to restore my custom data out of the floppies I made (2HD) with the previous keyboard and they all read "Data Error".
I am assuming that the old keyboard that had the drive replaced, wrote the disks in a different language or something.
I have no idea what to do.
I am seeing that the original drive of the 01/W reads only 2DD disks and the backups I have are 2HD.
Anyone has an idea?

Have you backed the floppys onto a hard drive? If you haven't then do so immediately. This will preserve the data. (Don't allow PC to format)
Then get a spare floppy and place sellotape over both sides of the hole on the right hand side of the disk (looking on top) place it in the 01 and format the disk. Afterwords drag a pcg from PC hard disk onto new formatted disk. (Don't allow PC to format)
This should work. I've got a good idea what is going on. Keep us posted.
