Automate microkorg XL arpeggiator from Ableton Live

Post by johannesruss »

Hey there,

i'm trying to automate the On/Off switch for the Microkorg XL Arpeggiator from Ableton Live. I've sucessfully automated other parameters like cutoff or fx level, so the whole setup is not the problem. I just cant find the right parameters to do this in a reliable way.

Does anyone know which parameters and which values i need to send? The manual didnt really help me.

Thanks so much,
Johannes

MKXL + Ableton Live

I don't know anything about Arpeggiator automation but pretty soon we're planning to starting using a MicroKorg XL with Ableton Live. It's disappointing to hear that not everything works perfectly.

Do you mind if I ask about how Ableton recognizes the hardware? Does it involve any complicated setup whatsoever or does the software seamlessly integrate with the hardware like it's a softsynth? I remember reading that the new MicroStation does this but what about the MicroKorg XL?

Sorry I can't help with your problem

hey,

you can use the "external instrument" device in ableton, so you can use the microkorg on an instrument track in ableton. that works pretty well. didnt really have any problems so far and its even easy to automate all the parameters from Live.

its not as integrated as a softsynth though, that means you dont get a plugin in your software. that will be the next generation of hybrid synths.
but there's a standalone software editor, which is good for programming sounds.

With most sequencers you can record control changes by actually using them.

What I mean is, if I am recording a MIDI track in cubase, and I hit the 'ARP On/Off' button, that message will be recorded into the MIDI and it will be sent when I play it back too.

I'm not sure how extensive the editing capability in Live is, but you could also then copy/paste and change the value of that message to use wherever you like.

yeah, that was my approach.

but what it records is one of those NRPN messages (non registered parametere numbers). so when i send it i have to send CC#98 and CC#6 (data entry). all in all really confusing and i dont know how to properly use all these different parameters, which values to send and so on...
