I'm thinking of adding a sampler/fx unit to my current rig of KPro and Alsesis Micron, was looking for a cheap'ish KP3, but... I have doubts it will allow me to record the length of time that I want. Also I have this feeling that the KP4 will be round the corner!?
So as an alternative I'm thinking a Roland SP-404sx, I know it isn't in the same ilk as the KP3, but I don't think I need realtime on the fly recording. I think I could cope with sampling whilst carrying on playing the KPro and then when ready utilising the SP-404sx.
What are your thoughts on this? I just wish I could go and test hardware but there are no specialist shops round where I live

Get the KP3...really the KP3 and KOPro were meant to work together. I love my set up. Once you midi the 2 together you'll find a whole world of possibilities. As far as if there will be a KP4 around the corner? I doubt it. There really is nothing left to expand on that could not be done with firmware.
If there is a KP4 I would expect it to combine the features of the KOPro, KP3 into one unit as well as add in the features of the DS 10+ and the DS M5.
A KP4 will exist but only once all of these Kaoss touch based things are combined together into one cohesive Kaoss unit to measure up to that of the Tritan Extreme.

If you're not interested in on the fly recording, and you ARE going to use the KP3 primarily as a serious sampler then I don't think its the right choice. The KP3 should be though of more as an FX processor that dabbles in sampling, and the SP-404 as a sampler that dabbles in FX. Not sure if you're read some of the other old topics, but the KP3 has a few issues surrounding samples, its sampling time is fairly short, and its sample loading time from the SD card is glacial.
I used to have a Micron, and I used it a lot with my KP3 and it was awesome for recording and quickly making up full songs to record on the spot, but I ran into problems in more live situations. There are ways to set things up if youre organized, that there are "gaps" where the KP3 is not needed and can spend time loading the next set of samples while the other two synths make noise, but seriously this is a pain in the ass, if you're doing this you'll be wishing you just got that 404.
You might want it anyway though, since the Micron has a pretty great sequencer and the KO pro can sample itself. You might mainly want the FX, which the KP3 is great at, and I'd totally recommend it for.
Well, thanks for the responses ) I was torn about the kp3 as I was wanting sample length, I just won a bid on eBay for the sp555. Effects are all well and nice but 16 beats isn't quite long enough and I prefer to do ambient type music.
Thanks again and hopefully the kp4 will be in production soon...
