Selling korg TR ... good idea or bad idea?
I have a TR88, and recently got a Triton Rack. Seeing that the Triton Rack does pretty much everything the TR88 does, except for some sounds, which can easily be sampled, I was thinking of the possibility of selling the TR in place of an 88 key m-audio controller (es probably, which is around 190, or pro, which is around 250 used). That would leave me with at least $400 or so from the sale. Would this make sense, or would it be a stupid thing to do? Any help would be appreciated.
If it meets your needs that's all that it should matter.

It is mostly a good idea. The TR and LE are very cut down compared to the fully featured triton synths.
The main concern would be the controllers - KORG's joystick controller is great because it goes up and down. In order to replicate that functionality fully you'd need a keyboard with two modulation wheels, or perhaps a joystick and pitch bender seperately. The aftertouch and four controllers should also be a consideration. It depends on how much you use them.

I just purchased an M-audio keystation 61es, using it to control selected programs in combis on my TR61. Just a newbie at this, but here's some of what I've learned so far.
Simple to fire up and get started. But probably more program set-up time than using two synths.
No 1/4 out for a volume foot pedal on the keystation. So you're gonna be slider grabbin'. Plus the Tr vol slider serves as a master for the M-audio volume slider. So the controller cannot go louder than the synth. Maybe there's a way around this, but I haven't run into it yet.
Octave buttons are real handy. Shifting the keyboard up/down is super quick. Easy to transpose as well.
It's got a piano like action that's comfy for me (I'm not a piano guy).
It's not very bulky. I stick mine in the bag case with the TR.
Hope that helps-
