m3 arranger keyboard

Post by amer123 »

Is it possible to use an M3 as an arranger keyboard?
What i mean is, is it possible to have an accomp. ?
also is it possible to trigger intros, variations, etc. via the pads or something?
Thanks.

I guess it's possible but not in the way the PA series works!

You'd have to get very familiar with the sequencer and Karma to do it on an M3. To be honest the M3 is not built to be an arranger, it's a workstation which I believe is something different.

It's hard to program the karma scene as arranger system (intro/fill/main) without Karma software (even with that).
The solution should be a i40m or another arranger module hooked up with M3 thru midi ;)

there are 2 way:
1- you can use the M3 only as a lead keyboard , the PA500 as backing sequence and the main melody, or upper 1,2,3 replacer (play the important lines on the M3).
2 - the "hardway".
Link the midi out of PA500 to the Midi in of the M3.
Disable the Program Change receive on the Global Mode for M3 (this way the style won't change the m3 programs with CC00/32/Program Change).
Make a list with what instrument are good for each style used on pa500.
Change the CC00/32/PC on each style (save them as "8beat-M3") OR
make a combi for each style wanted (less work)

I use Pa2x as master keyboard, send MIDI to M3 and keep M3 KARMA tempo synced to Pa2.

Then I tweak styles and KARMA to complement each other and then layer Pa2 and M3 main sounds too.

Some examples of Pa2 styles and M3 KARMA togteher are at link in signature (these two are played as one take realtime without sequencing or later tuning, just recorded audio)

Of course it can be used as an arranger but dont expect it to be like a PA
synth it is way different then that but you still have the main ARR functions.

It works fine for that.

I use it with an old i5m and just set a combi up to match the midi ch. It works great and you can find an i5m on craigslist for almost nothing.

I have a Yamaha QY700 that allows me to use my OASYS exactly like an Arranger from COMBI mode.
A cheap lower model QY would do the same for anyone too.

Regards
Sharp.

Yes, it could function similar to an arranger, but it requires a lot of work.

First you have to make your own KARMA GEs, if you want to do fully customized styles.

Once you have all the KARMA GEs and Scenes as you need, then you want to have RPPRs for Intor, Break, Fill-In, Ending ETC... You can map those RPPRs to pads. It does work.

As others mentioned, simplest would be to get an arranger module and MIDI to M3.

Shakil, i dont think you can have intros, endings, fillins or stuff like that...
KARMA works a little different then arranger, none of those things is possible
on M3 besides having 8 different Scenes NOTE: Which ALL of the 8 Scenes
are just a Copy of one Single Variation manipulated by KARMA.
RPPR wont help much in there...but yes, the M3 can do a great Job in need
as an arranger too...the catch is the creating GEs from scratch which not
many people succeeded yet and it needs the KM3 software.
It does need way more work then an arranger.

Yea I have the karma software but, having a hard time taking the scenes from the software to the keyboard.

Thats the easiest part, the hard part is making the scenes...what do you mean
trouble, as not knowing or you have problem with the soft. or connection it self?
