MIDI USB writing

I started getting into creating music a few years back and I would just mess around by plugging my USB MIDI keys into garageband and create a bunch of software instruments. Are there any programs out there simple like garageband for the PC in terms of creating software instruments quick, dirty and simple? Im talking garageband coloring book simple? Not sure who to ask but I love my Korg and the Korg community so I figured you guys could point me in the right direction.
