This Song Has No Title

Post by Reuben »

G'day,
Recorded this in one take on my Pa1x using a couple of layered sounds and the Harmonizer in the Chorus. Sorry about the extra bar - I couldn't find the "harmony on" button quick enough.

Anyone else game to share some novice recordings? - I'd love to hear them.
Have fun,
John

Hey Reuben.

I do hope you're looking for ppl's critique, 'cause here's my two cents.

It certainly has some "Leo Sawyer" and "Tom Petty" -ish to it, but to me it is a puzzle of a song...neither happy, nor sad.
But I do have a name-suggestion; "As-many-chords-as-possible-in-2:24".
By that I mean that it sounds a bit choppy and "weird" chord-progressions do not help. Maybe you could get a just as good result by using minors, majors, 6th, sus etc...
And what the heck is happening at the completion of the chorus?
In my limited and crappy laptop-speakers, it sounds as if you are unable to decide wich chord to finish with.
In general I like the concept, form and style...text sound good, but is a bit hard to grasp, I'll give it a go several more times to see if I can get it...

Hopefully you don't feel insulted, since I have no intent to do so.
Maybe I'm to blunt, but when I ask for critiques on my work, I hope ppl are as blunt as a tube...meaning; dead honest! That's what I learn from...not the blobbering appraisals.

Hi and thanks for comments. Wings I should have prefaced with an explanation that this is actually an Elton John song - but I'll pass your comments on to him and to Bernie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRw2EROYGNM
What I was really doing was just fiddling with the harmonizer etc and not really taking this too seriously.
Have fun everyone.

Hey Wings - I think your comments about the song are absolutely spot on. What was Bernie Taupin thinking with those words? And maybe there just are too many chords.
Perhaps surprisingly I have heard Elton describe this as his favourite song. Apparently he pretty much did this one all by himself.
