JamMan Solo vs. Boss RC20

Post by TuhwistedFiahstatah »

I picked up a JamMan Solo Loop Station at Guitar Center today, but I'm not so sure about my purchase. I've been playing with it on my R3 and so far I love everything about it. I've put together my own rendition of Bloc Party's Flux using it and it sounds mint.

I was originally going to buy a Boss RC20, but the Guitar Center I went to was fresh out. Well, the kid behind the counter recommended I get the JamMan, and so I did.

Is there any reason for me to bring back the JamMan and get an RC20 at this point? I love the LCD screen (which the Boss doesn't have) and I haven't had a single problem with it yet. If the Boss trumps my station, please let me know.

Did you research loopers before you bought? You might want to check out the Electro Harmonix 2880 and the Line 6 JM4.

TuhwistedFiahstatah: You're limiting yourself to mono looping with Jamman Solo and RC-20. Take a look on stereo loopers: RC-50, Jamman Stereo/Delay, 2880 (I'm not sure, whether JM4 supports stereo recording or not).
Gear: Kaossilator, KP3, R3, Wavedrum, microSampler, padKontrol, PX4D | Shure WH20, Godin ACS-SA, Fernandes Tremor 5X, Boss RC-50, Roland GR-20, Novation Zero SL MkII, Emagic AMT8, Soundcraft Compact 10

The JM4 has two mono tracks + an aux audio mix. The main benefit is that it has pro quality backing tracks, even though it was designed for guitar looping.

Well, my research was pretty slim. When I bought the looper, it was mostly an impulse buy (my original trip to guitar center was for a USB cable for my R3).

EDIT: I should also note that the JamMan and Boss stations were the best quality stations in stock at the store that I could afford on my budget.

/facepalm

You know that GC has insane markups on cables, right? The R3 USB cable is nothing out of the ordinary, you could've gotten it at any electronic store (or even a place like walmart) for cheaper, it's a pretty standard cable that most USB printers use.

Facepalm indeed! It was one of those, "It's here so I might as well get it" moments. Shame, I could've gone to Radio Shack and got it for half the price.
