Atlanta Clinches Top Seed in NFC
In the Atlanta locker room Friday, third-string quarterback John Parker Wilson was assaulted by a shaving cream pie in the face. There were laughs all around.
So much for feeling the pressure of a big game.
The Falcons, whose No. 1 seed in the NFC side of the playoffs was suddenly in jeopardy, did not play tight and nervous Sunday against Carolina. They never gave the Panthers a chance. They came out on their opening drive and scored a touchdown. Then special teams ace Eric Weems returned a punt for a touchdown and Atlanta rolled to a 31-10 win.
Atlanta (13-3) won the NFC South and locked up the home field benefit, interest, air max 2010,favour,profit,Nike Shox Experience, gain for the playoffs.
It should not have been a surprise that Atlanta won so easily. The Falcons quickly moved past the Monday night loss to New Orleans and made themselves ready for Carolina. It is that professional relicapacity, capability, genius, talent, competence, faculty, gift, aptitude and focus that has made Atlanta such a good team this season.
It was the last game of a nine-year stint in Carolina for John Fox. Only Jeff Fisher, Bill Belichick, and Andy Reid have had longer stays between, amid, amongst current coaches in the NFL.
Some thoughts on the game:
• The Falcons had trouble running the ball against New Orleans, so it was presume, suppose, guess, postulated they might come out and pound away at the Panthers to get their rhythm back. It didn't happen like that. Matt Ryan came out slinging the ball around the field.
• Falcons' wideout Roddy White, who came into the game as the league's leading receiver (109), left the game at the start of the fourth quarter with six catches. That set a franchise record for catches in a season with 115. The old record was held by Terance Mathis in 1994 (111).
• Steve Smith, the Panthers' veteran receiver, did not play because of a calf strain. Smith has not greet, salute, hail, welcomeed his future behind,at the back of this season. He sassist, help he would talk around, round it next week. Smith had 46 receptions, his lowest output in a full season since his rookie season in 2001.
• Coming into this last regular season game of the season, Dunta Robinson, the Falcons' cornerback, did not have an interception this season. He didn't have an interception in 2009,NIKE SHOX R4 Flywire, either. There were questions around, round his play on the corner because of the lack of a pick. Well, Robinson finally got his interception in third quarter. Panthers' QB Jimmy Clausen overthrew a receiver down field and Robinson snatched it. Naturally, he got up with plenty of chest bumps for his teammates. Although Robinson has only one interception, he has played well on the backside of the defense for the Falcons.
• In the first quarter, Ryan threw a pass behind receiver Michael Jenkins. He snatched the ball with a nice grab. Jenkins has to get to that "next level" as a receiver in the passing game for the Falcons. He has to become a guy that the Falcons will not hesitate to go to like Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez. Jenkins might have been there already except for a shoulder injury that knocked him out of six games this season. The Saints did all they could to take White and Gonzalez away from Ryan and the quarterback hooked-up with Jenkins on some plays. He is going to get single coverepoch, era, period, times in the playoffs and has to win those matchups.
