korg pa2x and Apple Logic 9
Dear All
how goes !
i got a small problem. I recorded a midi file (region) with logic and im trying to load it to pa2x as a style (mid).
the keyboard can see the file but i hit record new style > menu > imort > smf and pointing to the mid file, nothing happened.
so any guesses ? is there a way to be sure about the SMF format 0 (Zero)!
thx

When you try to save the midi file in Logic, does it give you an option to save as type 1 or 0?El-khawaga wrote:Dear All

Really? Then, it must be saving it as type 1 then. I'm sure if you look up the logic manual, you'll find the answer for that. I guess you would have to find a cheap second sequencer that's able to save as type 0..import the file into that and export it with the new format. You might even find a freeware sequencer that supports type 0.El-khawaga wrote:No it doesnt

There is gotta be an option for MIDI Type, there is no way of not having one.

I also think that "Logic" is too advanced in midi for not having such a feature. My guess is that you have to go to the preference and then find the options for Midi export, or midi region export(save) or something similar and then choose the type of midi. Your setup is probably defaulted to exporting midi type 1.
ok I think I guessed it right. Just googled Logic manual and did a quick search:
"To save MIDI regions as a Standard MIDI file1 Select all of the required MIDI regions.
2 Choose File > Export > Selection as MIDI File (or use the Export Selection as MIDI File key
command, default assignment: Option-Command-E).
1010 Chapter 32 Project and File Interchange
3 Choose the destination directory, enter a name, then click Save. The selected MIDI regions
are saved as a Format 1 MIDI file.
Note: Remember that most hardware sequencers can only read MS-DOS formatted disks,
so limit your filename to an 8.3 character name; for example, “proj0001.MID.”
To save a MIDI region in file format 0μ Select the “‘Export MIDI File…’ saves single MIDI Regions as Format 0” checkbox in the
Project Handling tab of the General preference pane (Logic Pro > Preferences > General).
When this preference is turned on, choosing File > Export > Selection as MIDI File when
only one MIDI region is selected automatically exports the region as file format 0 MIDI
file."

Ok, if you're sure that you're exporting your midi as type 0, then :El-khawaga wrote:Well i tried ur ideas and nothing happened. I dó save it or export it As midi but for some reason it didnt work.
Any more ideas ??
Are you trying to import more than one element at once? Example: are you importing Intro1, Var 1, var 2, ending 1..etc all at once? Or is it just one element at a time? Also, are you using the proper channels (9-16)? you know what, just e-mail me the file and I'll look at it and see what's going on..check your pm

As Sam said, the tracks can ONLY be assigned to channels 9,10,11,12,13,
14,15 and 16...check that first. Second, check if there is any Markers,
if thats so, when importing in PA800 Hold shift when you hit Execute, do
not just hit Execute without first pressing shift.

As stated above, make sure you have the MIDI format setting in Preferences> General and then "export MIDI"
It must work - I use this a lot for both SMF formats
Cheers

thank you guts for your inputs
the tracks was asigned to the right channels.
When i hit play on logic i can hear the style throw the keyboard (keyboard connected to logic throw midi cables)
I tested it both in sequence mode and performence mode. And it plays right.
When i export it to .mid the korg can see it in media option and i do hit the execute button but nothing happened.

Ok, just tested your midi. Like I said before, you MUST export your Midi as Type 0. Yours was saved as type 1. I re-saved it as type 0, import it in PA800 in style record mode and it works.
One thing though, did you on purpose set two tracks to channel 9?
Track 1: channel 9
Track 2: channel 9
Track 3: channel 10
Track 4: channel 11
Track 5: Channel 12
Track 6: channel 15
Check your e-mail, and try the midi I sent you.
