I really don't care that the Kronos recycles old technology, because I've never owned a Korg workstation anyway (Besides the Korg M01 for DS that's on it's way in the mail haha), so it's all new to me.
DX7 w/ E!, TX81Z, Micron, AN1X, Waldorf Blofeld, Alesis QSR, Proteus /2, Poly-800, Poly-61, Ensoniq Mirage.

I'm 51 and thinking of going back to giggin for fun! This board sounds like it will be perfect for me...an 88 note, and I can still use in the bedroom environment along with Oasys too. I would never move the oasys.
Does that screen look like 10in? Looks huge

THAT would sound new!SoulBe wrote:melting the cow
I have a nice sample of a milked cow, but a melted cow scream would probably make Sherinian sound tame.
On a serious tone: any mention anywhere of a rack module?
are you directly knowledgeable about that?shabbee wrote: Depends where you buy from, I think in the UK they will start from around £2500
Other details in your post would say that you had access to specifications.
"starting": does that mean 2500 gbp (3000 eur, 4000 us$) for the 61?
It would be a bit on the steep side.
Please tell if it's a guess or an informed guess.

But generally it is rather confusing than amazing. Looking at the pictures and reading some leaked details makes impression that this is really repacked oasys to compete/blow out M3 - and obviously won't be compatible to m3 programs and combis, hopefully for Oasys users Korg will provide compatibility. SSD is not cheap either, so 2.5K GBP mentioned somewhere above is probably main thing which is going to amaze folks if this number is true. Some new unexplained synthesis methods may still bring surprise though. So far I'm passively interested - 5 to 6 out of 10
Nein. EDS is for "Enhanced Definition synthesis"Akos Janca wrote:Hi Billy,billysynth1 wrote:What is VMT, MDS and Digital Synthesis? I cant recall seeing this in Korg before.
Yes, I don't know either. I guess MDS (Multi-Dimensional Synthesis) is an improved EDS. But the others seem to be new.
Best regards,
Akos
and MDS is for "Multi Dimensional synthesis"
Definition is about sound quality, Dimensional is about sound design.
I'm really interested in how fast the Kronos CPU is, so:
how many of those synthengines can be used simultaneously in one Program?? / Combi??
Polyphony count ?!
how many IFX / MFX / TFX can be used??
how many effect types??
does it has digital I/O??
does it has USB access to the internal SSD
greetings

I completely agree with you both. The only reason for a workstation is to maybe replace a laptop+midi keys on-stage... Even then, there is much more flexibility with choosing the latter option as far as software and keyboards go. I was expecting something new and exciting when it said "prepare to be amazed"... not just a repackaged product. Crossed my fingers for a new type of synthesis a la AP from Roland, or some innovative technology like TI from Access. Those are truly amazing products that are paving the way to the future. Hell I was more excited over the iPad dock from Akai.
"Kronos" is already old news.

I think it has been said that the AL-1 engine is superior to the virus T1...im sure some of the more synthesis experts have made this comment.
One thing that hasnt been discussed is Vocoder. Will Kronos have vocoder ability?

my guess is the following (and it would be a nice step forward):Hedegaard wrote:and MDS is for "Multi Dimensional synthesis"
a fancy name for a small but very usueful feature:
full integration between sound engines,
and between "levels" of programming.
Not just "layering a v-analogue patch on a rompled string pad" (with separate effects, even with separate memory banks as in the absurd m3/radias mis-integration).
If that's it, it's good indeed.
I guess it is that from the fact that Korg finally managed to solved the "falling notes and effects when switching program" bug,
and introduced the "sets"
This means that they focused on a "Uber-interface" integrating single engines and features.
This should also mean that they solved the infamous "programs losing effects when dragged into combi" issue.
The fact of maintaining the full power of the single program when you stack, layer, split, process it through another program, would be very useful (and would gobble up processing power).
this is what I am talking about.Naviára wrote:how many of those synthengines can be used simultaneously in one Program?? / Combi??how many IFX / MFX / TFX can be used??how many effect types??
If I am correct, the answer is: "as many as you can get in a program, time 16. No other limitation"
which is one of the things that had led me to Kurz and away from the Korg WS.

I hope you're right Ozy, that sounds awesome...the ability to pick up a program with all its effects etc and drop it into any key zone location on the keyboard in a combi and stack it with many sounds....mmm but they couldnt do this on a P4 processor...what type of processor would be in the kronos then to allow this?
Or isnt this about processor power but software driven?
Scuze my ignorance

I think they're about on equal footing (at least in voice count) but I'm not sure where AL-1 stands as far as integrated effects and external processing goes. But I wasn't talking about the engine of the Virus line anyway, my point was about TI - Total Integration being innovative. Discreetly streaming audio directly from the hardware w/ VST like editing inside of your DAW of choice. The Virus is 16 part multitimbral by itself. Kronos is rumored to have 16 tracks total as of right now. blegh.billysynth1 wrote:I think it has been said that the AL-1 engine is superior to the virus T1...im sure some of the more synthesis experts have made this comment.
Virus + Cubase 32-bit float point sound engine > Kronos
But hey if Korg throws down a competitive price then we'll see where it stands. Anything above $3,200 would be too much.
