Trouble setting up nanoKontrol in Windows XP SP3

Post by msr »

I have been long involved in computer music but am brand new to using a Korg nanoKontrol, so please bear with me. I am looking for some help. I am trying to set up my nanoKontrol to be recognized by my system. I am running Windows XP SP3. I have installed both the Korg Kontrol Editor and the latest Korg USB-MIDI driver for Windows (ver 1.12.02.01, dated 1-08-2010). I then did the following:

1. Connected the nanoKontrol to my computer with the USB cable.
2. Windows installed the standard USB drivers and said the unit was ready for use.
3. I used the Korg utility to install the Korg USB driver.
4. Used the Windows device manager and updated the driver from the generic windows USB audio driver to the nanoKontrol driver.

Everything seemed to work fine. Except when I check the driver status in windows it says the MIDI driver is enabled but not functioning properly. Also, the nanoKontrol is not recognized as a MIDI device by any of my applications including the Korg Kontrol Editor.

Where have I gone wrong. The device seems to work OK using the generic windows drivers, but doesn't work at all using the Korg drivers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

NanoKontrol driver problem -- Solved

Post by msr »

I see there are no responses to this question. But, I was able to contact Korg tech support and get an answer. The solution to this problem is this: It is a limitation in Windows XP where only 10 midi devices are allowed. The best explanation of this issue and how to solve it is here:

I did this and everything seems to work fine now.

By the way, Korg USA tech support was great. Quick response when I called on the phone and the guy was very helpful. Not something you see much of these days anymore. Kudos Korg! :)
