US / UK pricing?

Robinkle,

I am a Korg Dealer in the US, who posted those prices, they are MAP pricing.

I have always helped out forum members, so if you are in the US, shoot me an email and we can discuss it more freely

I'm not in the US and I'm new in the forum, so I didn't know you where a dealer, it just looked like the numbers came out of the blue thats all.

£2849 for a '61 at that store in Glasgow....$2999 in the US.

You know in a strange way I feel kind of relieved that, at least initially, the K will be too expensive for me... If it had been around the £2100 mark, I'd have felt compelled to part with my M3 and right kidney to get one (both of which I am perfectly content with

£ 2 849 = 4 522 dollars for the 61 key

... Of course, (at this time and afaik) we only have one store in the UK with a price, and this is touching £3k for a K61. They might be ordering in from the US for $3k, paying shipping, duties, adding their margin etc and then offering it at this price...??

Maybe we'll be lucky and the 'real' price once known across all UK distribution channels could be closer to $2999 / 1.5 = ~£2000...

Not saying for one minute that the K isn't worth 2849 quid - I remember being an early adopter of the Trinity and paying about £2700 when it arrived on our shores!

We can but hope!

Referring to this video, I think Korg hasn't announced the final price yet. So I would say it can be less than $3,000 for 61 version and so on.

Today I contacted 2 of the best known UK distributors, one of which spoke to Korg today. No idea on prices at all yet, or lead times; therefore any pricing we hear about in the UK is pure speculation at this stage

more on european pricings:

in Italy,

3300/3400 euros the 61 keys version (2850 gbp, 4500 us$)

3600/3700 euros the 73 (3100 gbp, 5000 us$)

Source: hearsay from wholesale distributor through local forum [repeat: "hearsay" and "forum", which is different from "seen with my eyes" in "real world", much less "prices really paid"].

Either these people know nothing about synths,

or they know a LOT about what's coming for Ze Mighty Evro!

Same over here in Germany. Got the information that prices will not disclosed before Musikmesse in Frankfurt. They let us in suspense for another 2 1/2 months.

Could it be that european dealers would like to earn some extra cash on people who doesn't have the patience to wait. I would think Pre-ordering is more expensive, I culd be wrong though. According to the interview SOS had with korg at NAMM, they wouldnt tell the price.

My wife, who is in the shipping/trade business, says everybody in the ex-imp business expects serious trouble with forex in the next few months.

Currencies are already jumping up and down 2/3% a week now.

Pre-sales could become a bloodbath if the euro takes a beating (and the pound could be next) in the months between pre-sale and delivery

So, prices in euro will probably not be official until the Kronos is available for delivery.

the same doesn't apply for USA, since Korg strategies seem to be US$-based rather than JPY-based.

This is probably why we have:

a) pre-sales available in USA
b) no pre-sales available in Euroland
c) Korg mum on prices

If it is so, then Korg is also okay with it, otherwise they could demand from their dealers to keep the prices lower.
But I don't think that ALL european dealers from ALL countries at the same time decided to do the same nasty thing, more likely it's some weird Korg's policy that keeps european prices so high. And seeing as it didn't change in any way for the past years, it's unlikely to change for Kronos too

The keyboard haven't been launched yet so I guess the dealers can make all the pre-order prices they want. I could be wrong though.

let me see:

it could be

a) a secret conspiracy by a malevolent giant Japanese corporation who hates his clients, days after giving them her best product in 5 years...

b) just the frittering of a currency, which is a fact know to eveybody, and is openly discussed on page one of all economic newspapers, and page three of most newspapers.

Let me think...
