Hello from England.

Hi there, just got my Korg R3 recently, second hand off Ebay!

I'm 23, I'm into song writing, production and live performance, and I hope to make it into a career eventually (then maybe I can drop this day job, ha!). My primary instrument is guitar but I’ve been self-teaching myself keys purely for ease of input into computers (I tried guitar > midi and lost my patience with it!)

Even though I have used midi keyboards for many years, I love my R3 so far, because it seems that bit more hands on than using VSTs. I know people argue a VA is just a VST in a nice box, but I want to start integrating synths into my band's live set, and I can't rely on my laptop to give me a stable bank of sounds that will load quickly and play 100% with NO latency, hence the reason for going with a dedicated VA synth.

I first had my sights set on the microkorg xl, but on trying all three in the flesh (the R3, Microkorg, and XL version) I felt the R3 suited my needs the most.

I was tempted by a Radias rack, but the second hand R3 was already pushing my budget ;)

I've been busy on the sound editor so eventually I’ll be looking to upload and share some sounds. I've seen a few people uploading things to various links, but is there a website where people actively upload and share files? After seeing how easy it is to use the R3 with its editor, it surprised me how little of a collection there was of sounds available on the Korgforums download section. I think I read in another thread that soon there will be an updated download section where users can upload and share files immediately; however I may be imagining that?

Anyway, that'll do for an introduction I think, hope to work with some of you in the future :)

Welcome to the R3 world! The download section here is the largest collection of programs. There's only one way for it to get better: for more people to share their own programs. As with other VA synths, most analog-style sounds can manually converted to the R3 engine using the editor, so learning how to program it well is the key to unlocking its capability, rather than merely searching for programs other people have done in the past. The editor is very easy and fast to use once you learn all the features in the engine, and then you can improve upon other programs to take full advantage of it. Nearly all MKXL and Radias custom programs can be converted manually to the R3 in minutes, since not many of them depend on their unique features. I move patches between softies like Massive, Absynth, and Synth1 on a regular basis for my R3.

Thanks for the welcome! I love making my own synth presets, always have, always will, so don't worry I will be uploading some eventually! Just want to make sure I have learnt how to get the most out of all the available settings on my R3 first, before I start spewing out the goods !!

Some of the sounds are good on the downloads section, I just expected there to be a lot of user made stuff, but it all fits on one page!

Yeah I did try to head over there earlier but the domain seems to be down, shame!

Well anyway, i've got much to be learning, so i'll keep my eye out and keep programming! ;)
