Anyone else jumping ship for the Kronos?
So I plan to sell my M50-88, and several other pieces, to finance a new Kronos 88. Anyone else thinking about making a similar move?
Korg gear: Kronos 73.
Other gear: Oberheim SEM | SCI Prophet 5 | Roland MKS-70 | Waldorf Microwave XTk

as soon as I heard it, I immediately decided I was dumping almost all of my gear for it. Then I heard that the 73 (should have been 76) key keybed was weighted. Now I'm not sure.
Current Korg Gear: KRONOS 88 (4GB), M50-73 (PS mod), RADIAS-73, Electribe MX, Triton Pro (MOSS, SCSI, CF, 64MB RAM), SQ-64, DVP-1, MEX-8000, MR-1, KAOSSilator, nanoKey, nanoKontrol, 3x nanoPad 2, 3x DS1H, 7x PS1, FC7 (yes Korg, NOT Yamaha).

But if you live in UE, like me or like GEL, consider that 1$=1 pound, for taxes, shipment, etc.
100% hardware made. All is done in a Korg M50 internal sequencer. Now updated (7/09/12) at http://www.hispasonic.com/akmon

Re: Anyone else jumping ship for the Kronos?
no way! too expensive in EU zone and not easy to sell M50 for a good price... 8 months ago i bought m50-73 for about 1400 Euro (almost 1900$, much!) and wil not get more than 1100 Euro (1500$, very lightly used).CfNorENa wrote:So I plan to sell my M50-88, and several other pieces, to finance a new Kronos 88. and now, when i got a month ago my new PC3X for 1800 Euro (2400$, not bad, lucky!) and don't wanna sell it... it has many features, which i even do not need, but kronos does so too i guess.
so i'm very pleased with my current setup and wil not be confused about updating every day)
as someone said here (as i remember - X-Trade): "you can do great music with old gear" (or "you don't need latest gear for doing great music")
that's it... for NOW

SONAR X3
Nice. I don't want to pull the trigger until I sell at least some of my stuff (money not so much the issue -- just the principle of it). I put my immaculate M50-88 on my local craigslist for $1000. Seemed like a fair price to me. Highest offer so far is $800. I think I'll wait this one out for a bit...McHale wrote:My KRONOS 88 has been ordered.
Anyway, congrats on the K88. I hope to be coming down that path soon!

yep. that's a fair price. I listed all my stuff at completed ebay prices. I figure I have a couple months to sell it all so I have time to wait. I'm selling all my gear just because I won't use it after the Kronos comes in. My goal is the Kronos and the Triton Pro and that's it.

My plan is to keep my m50 88 get a kronos 61 and then ill be able to play the kronos with both RH3-weighted keys or synth action unweighted ones, save a ton of money, and still have my m50. its a win win win situation.

I wish. Main reason:

This is such an effing deal breaker on the M50. My 20+ year old Ensoniq does that for crying out loud. There's no reason they couldn't fix that with a software update but yeah, not gonna happen. They're much more interested in selling their shiny new toy than supporting their filthy old crap.Smooth Sound Transition: this often-requested feature allows held or sustained notes to keep sounding when changing sounds or modes.

The M50 does smooth sound transitions in Program Mode. If you absolutely need smooth sound transitions, use program mode.Mr.Green wrote:I wish. Main reason:

never, never, never
I love my M50 too much - and the Kronos is twice the price, so unless it is twice the capability of the M50 it will never be worth it. Every single time I touch the M50 I find something new and brilliant to enjoy. Takes me minutes rather than hours to program great unique combi's now, and it is too reliable and sounds too great to ever be replaced..!!

Well, it depends on how you use it. Obviously the M50 does everything you need it to.nico88 wrote:I love my M50 too much - and the Kronos is twice the price, so unless it is twice the capability of the M50 it will never be worth it.
For someone who'd use the 9 synth engines, sampling, karma, more effects, etc etc etc... it could easily be ten times the capability. It all depends on what you need.
Personally, I think it's well worth the money, and way more capable than my M50... but I'm just not into spending big on keyboard workstations.
