Oasys owners ... Kronos really better or worth it?
I saw the Kronos promos and detail and was not left with a taste of "need this now" My Oasys it a thing of beauty and I think it matches up better as is my feeling. Kronos a rehash? Perhaps but keep in mind that the Oasys was born of a purer inspiration therefore all the knick knacks we love of it. Kronos although a nice instrument was not born of this purer inspiration because it undoubtely had to look in the mirror to be similar in functions as it's master the Oasys. Nope don't really need it as the Oasys has so much that I can very likely approach most all if not more of Kronos' features. Another note... if Korg abandoned Oasys it gives me no reassurance they would not do the same to Kronos. Love my Oasys always.

Manufacturers ALWAYS eventually "abandon" ALL of their products; they are NEVER supported indefinitely.
If the economy had been better, Korg would have probably provided one more update for the OASYS, but that would have been it.
Look at the update history of keyboards from Korg, Roland and Yamaha over the last 10 years and you see a fairly normal pattern -- the keyboards have some updates for a few years and that is it. The companies then focus their efforts on new products, even if that is an upgraded version of an existing product.
Examples:
-- Yamama Motif, Motif ES, Motif, XS, Motif XF
-- Roland Fantom S, Fantom X, Fantom G
-- Korg Triton, Triton Studio, Triton Extreme
-- Korg OASYS, Kronos
The OASYS is a fantastic, extremely high quality built instrument. Enjoy it for what it is.

Again, your comparisons are out of order. You're comparing an 8000-9000$ instrument with a normal 2000-3000$ workstation. Your comparison doesn't stand.MartinHines wrote:Manufacturers ALWAYS eventually "abandon" ALL of their products; they are NEVER supported indefinitely.

I can dig your use of the word "abandon" for the other synths but with Oasys they use the word Open , remember Oasys was special don't you remember .

They promised updates for "years to come". They kept that promise for (at least) 4 years. While I'm not happy either I don't see the legal right to complain. OK, except for the EXf, that is the only one. What else?SirRoyRogers wrote:Oasys is different to the others WS. And the difference is the promise that Korg made.
For me it's not about legal rights to complain but about how a company communicates with its (high-end) customers. I don't see any legal infringements on Korgs side. Years to come and Open can be interpreted in many ways. But that's not the point. It's the 'vow of silence' that drives many users mad. If they have good reasons to behave as they do, which I'm sure they have, WHY NOT TELL US???

As ever Charlie, spot on.
I would add (and I'm keeping it short because I've been accused of trolling re the OASYS
):
Don't know the life cycle of keyboard R&D. But how long ago - 12 or 18 months? - Korg decided to build a new OASYS. They clearly had no intention to make any developments for the O. We can work that out for ourselves! Surely then someone in Korg somewhere, sometime, must have said 'what about the O users - they get nothing, right?'.
So we have two levels of silence - the silence whilst they were developing the OASYS and the silence after the Kronos launch.
If there is good reason for how they have done things, then let us know!
If there are to be no-more anythings for the O, then let us know!
If there is to be something, anything, for the O, then let us know!
Surely, we deserve that much.
Please?

I would add: there is a good reason of Korg's silence but we won't know it from them for sure, as usual. I imagine their good people, our friends (Dan, Jerry, Rich, Stephen) are also suffering now reading these words of our "pain".
I see only one logical reason of the silence: they are working on something, maybe for us O users.
OK, I don't start it again.

Agreed, those guys you mention are great and probably do sympathise, but can't acknowledge it (for corporate reasons, presumably).Akos Janca wrote:I would add: there is a good reason of Korg's silence but we won't know it from them for sure, as usual. I do hope you're right Akos - and good for you to see the positive possibility; please keep promoting it!
It would be great if Korg is working on something... let's see.

I would be logical to follow that line of thinking Akos.Akos Janka wrote: I see only one logical reason of the silence: they are working on something, maybe for us O users.
However, that could be the case as well for the last two years... and see what happened instead.

Well, I cannot see any good reason for the silence regarding Oasys-customers.
And in general I believe that such company policies are a bit outdated. There is a trend to more and open communication between companies and customers - not to less. And when there are complaints the usual policy is ... to answer and/or react to it in some way or another.
