Need a CHORD Trigger function (more than 1 note per pad/key)

Post by thenoneone »

I have an M3. I really like playing chords on the fly and capturing them via the pads. I am looking for a small portable device to do the same thing.

I know the nanopad is capable of programing up to 8 notes per pad via the software but that is cumbersome. However, what I really want to do is directly connect the midi out of a keyboard directly into the midi in of some type of (small) pad or keyboard controller (preferably without a computer being involved) to interface all these devices together and just capture my chord(s) via midi. I am not interested in sampling by the way, just midi.

Can this function be done on a padKontrol or some other small and portable keyboard/pad device made by Korg? If not, would anyone know of another manufacturer that provides this capability (say the Akai MPD18 or MPK mini for example)?
If someone knows for sure I would appreciate what device would meet my needs.

Thanks,
Scott

Chord trigger question ... another

Post by thenoneone »

... I am still in search for a device other than Korg(?) to do this. I don't understand why a manufacturer can't implement something that is already on the M3 (too big, not portable) or nanopad! Or, do I not know of the one that can do this yet.

Here is another related question.
I saw a you tube version (below) of an omnichord emulation being performed with a padkontrol.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QGAZuSWq7Y or

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YocCrCGI ... re=related

So here is my question ...
several videos show the padkontrol playing a chord from a one button/pad trigger.
All notes are strummed within any given chord combination. Unless I am not understanding this properly, this pad is triggering several notes at once (within the pad) and the only difference is that you are strumming all the notes as opposed to having notes within a chord play simultaneously.

Then, by my own observation (or logic?), why can't all notes saved within that pad be played together rather than "strummed" (several notes played very fast in succession ???

hmm from those videos it still seems the pads trigger one note-- since he says he is using a midi pipe to convert the cc signals into note on signals.

So what you are mistaking as chords, its just a strum that hits a range of notes really fast one after the other. since the x-y pad of the padkontrol has close input areas that trigger info, it can hit a strum with minimal effort. (you can see his finger slide on each strum)

and im pretty sure he is using an external vst/software instrument that he set a range of notes in his chord to hit
