Trying to modify Prog Int-C050, Please Help.

Hi guys,

I am trying to modify Oasys Prog Int-C050, Cool AutoWah Gtr and I am stuck. Have been looking at the param guide trying to digest how the autowah fx works but it's just not sinking in.

What I would like to do is to control the autowah intensity and frequency using aftertouch. i.e. the harder I press, the intensity and freq. of the wah increases.

I have been able to control the intensity/amount of wah with aftertouch pressure, by setting the wah source to aftertouch on the IFX1 tab, but I can not figure out how to increase the frequency also.

So far I have gone to the P5 - LFO page and unchecked midi/tempo sync on both osc 1 & 2. I went to P8 - IFX1 and changed the sweepmode source to LFO, I can now change the freq. manually by changing the LFO freq value but I can't seem to wrap my head around how to make this happen using aftertouch pressure.

I do know that I need to be able to modulate an LFO, using aftertouch, that will modulate the sweep freq. of the autowah... Sounds so easy.

Any help or direction would be appreciated.

Those LFOs are unrelated. The Wah Wah IFX effect has its own LFO. The Program LFOs are affecting the sample's AMP and PITCH. By pulling the joystick towards you (-Y), you will notice a Tremolo effect (modulating the AMP). By pushing up on the joystick (+Y), you get Vibrato, with the Program LFO affecting PITCH.

If you want After Touch to affect Tremolo, go to the AMP/EQ tab, then press the AMP1 MOD. tab. Next to LFO1, change the AMS to AFTER TOUCH.

To control LFO frequency, press LFO tab, then OSC1 LFO1 tab. Uncheck MIDI/TEMPO SYNC.
Near the top, set LFO FREQUENCY to "3."
Under that, set AMS1 to After Touch.
Next to that, set INTENSITY to +16.

Press FILTER tab, then FILTER1 LFO MOD. tab.
At the top of the screen, set LFO1 AMS to AFTER TOUCH.
Set the INTENSITY to +31.

For the effect portion, what you can do is just change to a more programmable Wah Wah effect...

By Frequency, I understand that the wah wah cycles faster. Do you mean "Intensity" to be the max output (loudness) of the effect? If so, you can replace the IFX - 134 Wah-Amp Sim with another kind. Press the arrow, next to that and select EQ/FILTER to find STEREO WAH/AUTO WAH. (St. Vintage/Custom Wah works, also.)

Select the IFX 1-12 tab to edit the effect parameters:

Assign SWEEP MODE to LFO.

Set FREQUENCY Hz to the slowest value you want, perhaps .30.
Under that, set SOURCE to AFTER TOUCH.
AMOUNT set to as fast as you want, let's say +2.00

After Touch now controls your Frequency.

At the bottom of the screen, set OUTPUT to DRY.
SOURCE = AFTER TOUCH
AMOUNT = 100

If you combine all of the above (the effect setting and program setting), it makes for some pretty expressive after touch! You can always change the values to faster or slower.

You see, this is the reason why we're all waiting for Mike to make another DVD about programming details.

Mike, please, drop your indie & sci-fi films and Las Vegas casinos, and make another DVD - you can just make it about HD1, AL-1, MS20, Polysix, MOD-7 and CX-3, these engines can cater for the Kronos also as they are identical (almost).

Then you just need 2x different printed covers, one where its printed "Kronos" and the other "Oasys" and in the video you only show close up's of the actual programming screen, not the synth itself.

When can we look forward to such a DVD from you?

Thanks for the good news, Mike. I like your first DVD very much (as you already know).

What will be the main difference between the first and the new one? Do you have a Table of Contents already? And will it be created specifically for the OASYS - or more generally for "Korg's best workstations"?

Akos, the focus of this DVD will be on Disk Mode, Combi Mode (making splits, layers, assigning effects, etc.) and Program Mode (Basics, like Chord Modes as well as some interesting things like programming Vector Loops, Step Sequencing and using LFO Shape to modulate a Wave Sequence).

I will cover bus routing, including a new, slicker version of an old (but cool) video I posted where one voice is routed to multiple destinations. Tone Adjust for Combis and Song mode will be covered, too. Examples of MOD-7 rhythm making and loading DX sounds, chaining synth engines together, routing audio tracks into synth engines, recording fader/knob moves and other topics.

As for Kronos, it supposedly comes with its own DVD, from Korg. I don't know what it will cover; maybe a quick starter disc. If that's the case, I may do one, like the OASYS DVDs (so much is similar). The only way I can get to that point, is to make "Unofficial" OASYS: Part 2. Of course, I'll include some bonus short movies, like CONTINGENCY PLAN. It will be packed.

Special guest appearances by the JP8000 and Virus TI. (Seriously)

Dear Mike,
this sounds promising. Just before the Kronos came out I bought "finally" the MOD-7, because I had no time really to concentrate on such a expanded programming. So some advice on this part will be really appreciated.
And your remark on the Roland JP 8000 is interesting as I still own a JP 8080 which is the rack version of it. I must say that since the Oasys I almost never use it anymore, but some features were quite advanced on this machine.
So I'm still around, although not writing a lot anymore. There was no real reason for that. I still love the Oasys and do not intend to get to a Kronos, because there is really not enough new stuff to make that change interesting. I believe some people playing live might welcome this Workstation besides the O, but otherwise?
