I am not MIDI savvy, please have mercy!
I want my KP3 to receive CC#95 (Hold Button) and toggle between on and off.
Is my KP3 going to receive that information in Internal Clock mode?

KP3 Hold Button MIDI controlled
iF anyone out there can help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

The clock mode has nothing to do with MIDI control. Clock settings only affect where the device is getting timing information from.
I'm not sure but I didn't think the Hold button had a MIDI CC assigned to it, I might be wrong about that as I've never worked with the KP3.

Thank you, X-Trade;
I got John from MIDI Solutions to sort everything out for me via email. I can say without hesitation that the good people at midisolutions.com actually give a s**t about customer service!
Thank you, Korg, for my vague manual and equally evasive downloadable manual, and this website so I can ask your other customers about your products.
In case anyone out there is trying to do this, midisolutions.com have all kinds of hardware to midi translator boxes. And they are helpful.
I hooked up a footswitch to my KP3 so I can turn on the CC95 control change command to the HOLD button, so I can turn on any of the drums in the four drum banks, in time with me and not the internal sampling clock.
I am a guitar player primarily, and this turns the KP3 into a more live performance friendly drum machine for this type of thing. And turning the effects on and off with a footswitch is a plus.
KP4:
Footswitch jack.

Actually, Korg has nothing to do with this website.
If you notice at the top of every page, there is a big box saying:

Anyway, I understand your position in not understanding MIDI but normally the way to go is just try it. If it is already listed that the KP3 will recieve MIDI CC 95 for the hold button, what more is there to do? And what does it have to do with the MIDI Clock setting?Korg Forums

Yes the "thank you" to Korg was referring to the link to this forum that's on their website. I've had no luck in getting a response form them. My point is that their customer service is non-existent. It will make me think twice about buying anything from them in the future. AKAI makes a kick ass drum machine.
But you are absolutely right when you say MIDI is a trial and error type of thing. I agree completely.
I was trying to troubleshoot a problem though, and of course the other thing about MIDI is that it ties together gear from different manufacturers, usually causing those manufacturers to point their fingers at the kit from the other manufacturer. For the unschooled it can be quite a frustrating experience.
I thought I had read somewhere that MIDI Control Change messages can't be sent without MIDI clock transmission possible. I thought maybe the KP3 would have to be in Auto mode to receive the CC message. That is the source of my confusion regarding MIDI control.
Experience will teach me to have faith in such things.
Anyway, thanks for your help.

Akai customer service is notoriously bad
