NanoPad n00b question: not working with EZ Drummer

Hello,

I hope this question hasn't already been asked thousands of times but I am just a total n00b to the nanopad and I really need some help.

I installed the device as the manual said and I also downloaded the EZ Drummer Lite program from the free download that came with the pads but I somehow fail to make things work.
There is a red light next to SCENE 1 on the pad but nothing is happening...The pads don't make any noise if I hit them and try and use them with the downloaded software...

...Is there any other program I need to make everything work? I just want to make some very simple beats.
I am using Vista on a Sony VAIO VGN-NS11S Laptop
