Kronos vs Tyros 4 Articulate? Crescendos
No I am not promoting the Tyros.. But just heard a nice Tyros 4 video from Kraft music. Can the Kronos articulate the sound as in this video explains? Crescendos between the notes .. I like the finger guitar example..very nice. Any Oasys examples?

However:
Kronos: 9 Synthesis & 11,000 Mb of Samples
Tyros: 1 Synthesis & < 750 Mb of Samples
Tyros price isn't only regarding sound specs, because they aren't better than Kronos, they surely also include bells&whistles of arranger. Nonetheless, Korg never had good reputation for acoustic sounds by the past anyway. In that domain, Yamaha has always been strong to beat.
It's a shame they haven't include yet some scripting features in the HD-1 (such Tyros SA or other Kontakt Libraries such Strawberry Guitar, etc...
But in the end, I will still love the Kronos better, because Korg could include some Super-Articulation Synthesis if they really want to do so...

Korg PA3X is a real competitor to Tyros4.
Another competitor is from GEM/Ketron . I can't recall model name.
Korg PA2/3X has special OS and sound engine. Each program has 8 oscillators and each oscillators has OSC trigger switch setting. This setting is the key to so called super articulation voices.

Korg, in their infinite wisdom, has decided that buyers of their performance workstations don't want the best sounding articulated voices. They apparently think that only buyers of arrangers want the best articulations. I've been trying to convince them that this is stupid and wrong, but they don't listen to me. The danger is that some of us will actually try these great articulated voices on other products by competitive manufacturers and realize that the KRONOS 9 can't do highly articulated voices. I'm willing for Korg to convince me otherwise. My challenge: Show an example of Korg's best uilleann pipes, compared to the Tyros 4. Line them up and start the joust to see who ends up with their ass in the mud in defeat. I'm backing Yamaha SA2 all the way on this challenge.sparkie wrote:So Korg already has the technology.. but just on the arrangers then. I wonder if you can possibly do articulation manually somehow on the Kronos? Or Maybe with Karma.
I agree, where is Korgs head, they make a big hoopla about opening and closing a piano lid. WhoopDee! The articulated sounds on the Tyros 4 is catching my ear. The brass and strings really shine with articulation. The choirs are really great also using this.. I wonder if using the Wave feature is a solution.
Listen to this.. unbelievable and very realistic!!

Here we go again. I tried to stop this thread...
Yammy tyros4 articulation sounds are good because they put in a lot of hours of sound programming and custom samples recording(recording of specific nuances). And You have to PAY for it. Almost twice of Kronos 61 key version. You get what you pay for..Still don't get it???
Tyros4 articulation voices are not included in Low end PSR ($1700 or less).
Jeez...

The PSR-S900 and PSR-S910 certainly do have SuperArticulation voices.mkpcola wrote:Here we go again. I tried to stop this thread...

The PSR-S910 has the following SuperArticulation! voices found on the Tyros4:
Harpsichord, ConcertStrings, StudioStrings, TremeloBowing, Spiccato, ConcertGuitar, SteelGuitar, FlamencoGtr, PedalSteel, WarmSolid, CleanSolid, GuitarHero, 70'sSolidGtr, HeavyRock, NylonGuitar, FolkGuitar, HalfDrive, WarmElectric, CleanElectric, Feedbacker, Saxophone, BigBandSax, RockSax, JazzRotary, RockRotary, Trumpet, SilverTrumpet, GoldenTrumpet, BigBandTrumpet, TrumpetFall, TrumpetShake, BigBandBrass, SmoothBrass, BrassFalls, BrassShake, AccentFalls,MagicBell
As soon as you put "low-end PSR" in reference to the S910, I immediately knew that you don't know s**t all about what you're talking about. Yes, Jeez, why don't you just shut up when you don't know your s**t. I own an PSR-S900, among my long list of gear.
So, I've pwned you 2 out of 2 times. Wanna go for 3 out of 3? Bring it. I DID pay for SuperArticulation voices, and I've got them. I might not have all the Tyros4 SA voices, but I bet I have more than you do.
I don't think you're comparing apples with apples though. The Kronos and the Tyros 4 are aimed at two completely different markets. The Tyros 4 is an arranger not a workstation - two separate animals. Most of what the Kronos can do the Tyros 4 can't.
A fairer comparison would be Kronos vs Motif XF and Tyros 4 vs Pa3x.
Having said that, having the DNC voices (Korg PA series) on the Kronos would be excellent!!

Re: Kronos vs Tyros 4 Articulate? Crescendos
I guess you mean glissando between the notes and not crescendo.sparkie wrote:No I am not promoting the Tyros.. But just heard a nice Tyros 4 video from Kraft music. Can the Kronos articulate the sound as in this video explains? Crescendos between the notes ..
I would say the Kronos can do it for the most part. Not all but a lot of what you see on the video. The ability to do a lot of that is certainly there, but most probably there are not performance samples on the Kronos. On a general level I would say it's doable if you have the samples. You can use velocity switch to trigger some variations or the SW buttons.
I found it mentioned at the end of the new vid thread when I asked what a ribbon controller was.
StephenKay wrote:In addition, you can assign the ribbon to control KARMA such that sweeping the ribbon causes glissandos of notes, or strums of a guitar.RichF wrote:The ribbon controller does different things, depending on the sound that you're playing. You just press it with your finger, and as you move it horizontally, it modifies the sound somehow.
It's often assigned to level or filter parameters, but you can assign it to dozens of different things.
On some Programs/Combis, SW2 (the second switch above the lower joystick) will memorize your finger's position on the ribbon, so you can free up your left hand.
Hey man who peed in your Wheaties? Your not the Korg Guru! If typing or reading this thread bothers you then ..guess what.. Dont read it! I know what the KBs cost! I was simply asking if Super Articulation could be implemented on the Kronos..And if so how is it done. JEEZ!!!!!!!!!mkpcola wrote:Here we go again. I tried to stop this thread...

Thanks XMLGUY for your input. PSR S900 is a good addition, looks like it has been discontinued.
