Vox Wah distortion

Seems like the only time I post is to gripe about something!

Anyone else notice that the Vox Wah is extremely shrill and distorted when it's activated? Even with my volume down, no amp drive and the high end cut on eq, it's just just plain harsh. Not pleasant to listen to at all. Others having the same experience?

to be honest I've never experienced a real clav and vox wah, so I can't comment on whether its accurate. For what I expect when I turn the wah on though, it does well. If I have my volume up then sure its harsh, but its a high frequency.

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned that it's mostly in the upper register that the distortion occurs. about an octave and a half above middle C or higher. But like yourself, I've never experienced a real clav and wah, so perhaps the shrillness is "normal". If so, it's not something I'll be using too often.

I agree. Auto Wah is set too strong and lacks some kind of "Amount" or "Filter Q" control. Compared to usual Clavinet + Mu-Tron setup, it is too harsh. Too bad, because D6 sounds are very realistic and pleasure to play.

There is even a free knob "Intensity" right there which could be used for that.

Any chance Korg can fix this? And by the way, very well known problem with "Drive" knob?

Would be MUCH appreciated.

Are you using an expression pedal?
I just got a Yamaha FC-7 pedal for it, I think the wah sounds great when you can properly control it with a pedal.

No, I prefer auto wah. Actually, the most classic vintage wah application I know is Clavinet + auto wah. Like the one on Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder. You cannot get that one with SV1, the resonance is too strong.

Another reason I don't use pedal is that then I would have too many pedals to control. If I could put up with another pedal I would go for a real wah pedal. Costs almost the same, much better value.

I just hope Korg will eventually fix this.

I might be off the mark, but have you tried playing around with the editor's "open and closed" wah settings?

I tend to have mine set at quite a low open point to keep the auto-wah "rounder," with less of a bite.

Hopefully I'm going to pick up an expression pedal next month though. Then I can keep my wah to my taste, with the wider, cleaner, high, open sound there when I need it.
