Korg Oasys Locks up and Crashes
Does anyone know why my Oasys crashes while I'm browsing through presets? I have it connected to Nuendo. I have a midi track armed with both midi in and out routed to the Oasys. My Midi inteface is a Midex 8. Anyone know of a nice midi interface? I have crashed my Oasys several times now while just playing and changing the presets.

First thing to do is unplug all midi cables.
Then use the OASYS in the same way and see if the same problem happens.
If it doesn't then it's definitely a midi problem - and looping is a possibility.

Plugged in: Fantom 8, Jupiter-X, Jupiter 80, System-8, JD-XA, V-Synth GTv2, FA-06, SE-02, JU-06A, TR-09, VT-4, Go:Livecast, Rubix44, Shure SM7b, Push2, Ableton 11 Suite, Sibelius, KRK Rokit 5,
Thanks for the advice. I have gotten the Oasys to crash by itself, not connected to anything, but it's because I was doing very demanding commands on it and was moving pretty quickly. I believe it's a Midi loop issue. However, I don't know how to stop the midi loop. I'm not, by any means, an expert in Midi. Do you have any recommendations as to how to stop Midi loops?

Hi JoDell,
If the OASYS is not connected to anything then it's not a MIDI loop. BTW, I don't know how you operate the OASYS. No doubt, it can freeze - but very rarely. (It happened only 3 times in more than 3 years, always during some editing. This thing is much more reliable than ANY of my electronic devices including mobiles, laptops etc.)
You say you are not an expert in MIDI, you don't understand MIDI loop. However in the other thread where you report latency problems you said you could record your other instruments in Nuendo, and you used the OASYS as MIDI master etc. All this certainly needs at least some basic MIDI knowledge...
You have very strange problems. Will you please tell when you bought your OASYS? You have only 5 posts on the forum.
Please forgive my distrust.
Best regards,
Akos

I've never had an issue with any of my other instruments when it comes to midi loops. Therefore, I don't even know what it is that I need to do in order to not have a midi loop. Can you define a midi loop?
As far as my use of the Oasys, I use it in two different ways. I use it with my studio, where Nuendo handles all of my midi recording. The second use, is standalone. I use this for quick recording of my ideas.
I got the Oasys about a month and half ago. Why this is relevant to my issue, I don't know. Is there issues as to OS problems? Can there be something wrong with it?

I did buy it used. Now, I'm getting nervous about the unit itself. I'll keep testing this bad boy out today. Hopefully, something will make sense; a setting maybe off.
Food for thought: Do you believe it could be that maybe the last OS update may have been installed incorrectly?
If I try to reinstall it, are there things I should do or not do?

Thanks, Sina.
JoDell, I don't think it's possible to install the OASYS operating system incorrectly (but I may be wrong).
Anyway, the OASYS displays the OS version at startup. If it's not the latest (1.3.3a) then you should register at the korguser.net website - if you haven't done it yet - then download and install it.
To be able to do it I think you have to assign your OASYS to your name on the website above. If it's already registered with the previous owner, you can "transfer" the registration to yourself but I think you need your local Korg dealer's help for that. (On korguser.net website you will find also very nice additional soundpacks to your OASYS - don't miss them.)
For MIDI loop problem explanation I think you should check your Nuendo documentation (keywords also "local OFF", "echo OFF" etc.) or use Google or the Search function on this forum. But I think if your OASYS is not connected to anything and still behaves strange then the problem is not a MIDI loop.
Best regards,
Akos

LOL, here we go again. Sina, I wonder if your studio might actually be Korg's warehouse. 4 OASYS now on top of all those Tritons or whatever they were, and I wonder how many Kronos you will be getting? Anyway, so long as you are having fun, that's all that matters
JoDell, check what OS version you have. The latest is 1.3.3 and it would be worth updating to that if your OS version is earlier.
If the OS version is 1.3.3 already, then it might still be worth reinstalling. Just back up any data you have already created to an external drive or USB stick. But by the sounds of things but it may just as well be reset to factory defaults. For that check page 184 of the latest OASYS Operation Guide. But if all else fails and you are still getting crashes then it could possibly be hardware related and may need servicing I guess.
Also definitely worth reading up on Midi. Here is a good link to get you started. http://www.tweakheadz.com/how_to_get_st ... _midi.html
Hope you get it sorted.
