2loose - Show and Tell (never emo mix) - Apr 11

Post by georgeinar »

Here's go another. This one took some doing as I wasn't sure where I wanted to take this and the mix just wasn't hot enough and I was getting some distortion on the drums, of all things. Anyway, this seemed to want a lead guitar which I simply cannot or will not emulate to my satisfaction on the m3. So if anyone would like to take a shot at some lead stuff I did allow for downloading so help yourselves to the mp3. This is maybe electrothrash, or synth metal or hard electronica. I do appreciate any feedback on the music as well as the mix.

I was getting some distortion on the drums
The drums sound suuuuper fat, really like 'em. didn't catch any distortion. Everything sounds metallic and theres a real continuity in that theme even though the composition runs through a medley of different genres. Quite a ride man!

I don't really know what to criticize.

The section around !:40-2:00 reminds me of this song:

-which also features an electric guitar. So maybe you can get some inspiration off that piece. Its by an amazing Japanese composer named Yoshito Hirano

That is an interesting song. Thanks for the link. I do see some similarities and possible influences for my musical style. And the drums were messing with me because I used a low-bit drum kit where the drums do have a distorted low-end on purpose, but once the sounds were mixed together it was distracting and sounded like a mistake, so I switched up 1 or 2 of the kicks and/or toms to make it sound cleaner and better in control. I do find the low-bit drums on the m3 to be really punchy and fascinating. The hand-claps in particular will cut thru any mix, even at a low volume.

Yep, sounds very metallic. Awesome stuff. So much variety, very progressive.

Maybe there could be lead guitar in spots, but I think it's just missing some vocals. It sounds like an instrumental version of a song. I have no problems with that at all though. I love instrumental stuff.

Though maybe I could give a shot at some keyboard leads (can't play the guitar, wish I could though). Maybe.. I don't like the keystation 88es and its pitch bend wheel. It's a crucial element when I'm soloing, and I just love the joystick on Korg keyboards. So used to using it on my Extreme.

But I downloaded the song and we'll see.

Another great song here. 8)

Thanks, and give it a shot if you are so inclined. It seems lacking melody or some sort of high leadish-ness in spots, but it may be simply because my own ears are tired of certain spots and wants them all totally busy and overworked. It's a fault of mine when I've heard a piece umpteen times.

Cool drums (sound/groove) nice guitar riffs and good timing - those breaks are swift and come at the right time.

Those synths chords are panned very widely which make the sonic spectrum very interesting.

The pitch-bended ending is cool too :)

Those were my first thoughts while I was listening. I wouldn't try to classify this tune, it just fits with your unique and personal style. I think it could work as video game music. I believe you were thinking about going in that direction.

In terms of sound, mix and arrangement, it all up to a very high level imho.

That wide panning is no easy feat. I have been working hard on full fat widely panned sounds that fill the whole space. When it's done right it makes for great variation between a central bass and kick, a random pan on the lead and the wide buzzing sounds punching in and out.

Hi George, Cool song George! I love the drums and the distorted guitar it just works so well in the song. The middle 8 is cool as well, changing theme and movement flowing in a tangent to compliment the phatness of the song.
