ApresMidi2010 and Rocness - you are scare mongering and causing conspiracy theory like reactions. That New York times article was written for you. Seriously - go back - and read it carefully. I'm not patronising you - I repeat - you need to read that article in completion.

The only issue for Kronos - and I mean the ONLY issue - is your scare mongering. You have fallen into the unfortunate trap highlighted in that article. I have one piece of advice for you both - go read "the Demon Haunted World" by Carl Sagan. That'll soon know the total nonsense swirling around in your heads.

You need to stop, step back, take a deep breadth and then go though your arguments step by step. There are so many flaws, false perceptions and logical fallacies in what you are piping up here that I don't know where to begin (and there's be no point in any case).

There is no issue; and I mean absolutely no issue worth debating (I am a Physicist by the way)). And there are so many factors you are not taking into consideration that even if radiations were of any concern whatsoever, that your arguments would still be null and void.

the world is complicated enough without conspiracy theory, DIY/bogus science and scare mongering raising it's head at every hand's turn.

So the very best you can do is look inward - VERY earnestly - and try to debunk the nonsense you piping up here - if you do that you'll have a much better perception on such events / scenario from here on in and will not perpetuate forums like this with continuous utter nonsense. I mean it - the problem is you - do not come back with more stupid calculations and utterly unreasoned stand points (the basis of ALL of you posts to this point). THERE IS NO RADIATION ISSUE HERE! It's all about your flawed perception and reasoning and there is nothing to debate.

Kevin.

No, I am scared!!!  Scared !!! Mi kids will live on a lifeless planet !!!   I feel dizzy: it could be sun radiations!!! or Japanese radiations!!! Or maybe the wood in my synth sidepanels was infected by the Plague in 1064 AD!!!  Death is everywhere!!! I need to measure radiations!!! To keep track of Oceans!!! I need information on sea levels, rainfall, temperature, crime rates, stock market slumps, geopolitical turmoil !!!

My life depends on external events!!! There's nothing inside me!!! I am a puppet in the hands of world disasters!!!

Ozy, thanks.

I take it as it is. You are worth more than three persons agreeing with Kevin.

Probably I should not have gone further to write about calculations or ask Dan to propose Korg to issue radiation free warranty. I hope that you understand that I proposed to lock this thread. Then Kevin came. To avoid scare mongering, I delete all of my posts in this thread except this one.

actually, ApresMidi2010 posted links to actual scientific data. Which I applaud. And I find it laughable that in response he received links to news articles - not really the best source of solid information.

And the data shows relatively low levels of radiation.

Not to mention, anyway, that it is unlikely for radioactive material of any significant quantity to find its way into the keyboards or any other product manufactured in Japan.

Remember, things don't really absorb and subsequently re-emit radiation themselves. Not really. The only kind of contamination is the existence of actual iodine, cesium, or worst uranium in the product. which is just not going to happen. They are not present in significant enough quanitties. Plus iodine and cesium have a fairly short half life and are likely to diminish even further in shipping if it was even there.

People are paranoid about radiation because they can not see, feel, or smell it. Seriously, there is radiation around us every day. Computers, microwaves, mobile phones, etc emit EM radiation. Light is a form of EM radiation. Cathode ray tube televisions and screens use effectively beta radiation (I think). Medical equipment is another.
Nuclear energy is also for the most part clean and safe, and is doing wonders for the environmental movement. It is terribly unfortunate what has happened in japan, but the designers of the plant had obviously not planned for a tsuanmi and earthquake simultaneously. knowledge of tsunamis and how they work is only relatively recent at that.
When it goes wrong it is terrible but we are really at the technological level where we can make them such that they should never go wrong.

I'm sorry but it really irritates me when people base their fear of something on their ignorance of it. And it blows the advantages and disadvantages completely out of proportion because people are set in this idea that it is bad, when in reality there are no such absolutes.

At worst, here, now, people who continue to tout this idea of contaminated products could spread and make KRONOS a commercial failure. Something which I'm sure none of us would like to see if we still want to see innovation and exciting new things in our favourite corner of the technology industry. But no-one will die of KRONOS radiation poisoning either way.

If this discussion is scare mongering then what about those articles, news reports? Journalists are seldom physicists.

Average people will have concerns. I think clear and definite answers should be published to calm them down. So, instead of locking this thread, please make it sticky with collected links to help to get the final answer.

Apresmidi, please don't go.

X-Trade and Akos:

Thank you. Just that. (I already deleted all my preivous posts in this thread)

Would like to keep other posts when I said: If you guys buy Kronos that would help Japan to resurrect, equally or more than donations, etc. to which you and Ozy gave thumb ups.

That would give me a good memory.

My regret is that I gave some people something I did not intend - but reviewing each one of them, I realized Kevin's interpretation can make sense - while you guys took them as I intended. You agree with me that I have no conspiracy with other posters.

Here is my correction - do not worry about radios, buy Kronos, and have fun. Korg would be proud of you, as much as I do.

Kevin, you may be right, but on the other hand there exist uncertainty and fears (not limited only to ApresMidi2010 and Rocness):
http://www.industryweek.com/articles/ja ... 24293.aspx

From Chernobyl I have learned that you cannot always trust the information from public authorities. For example, in 1986 the west german government downplayed the dangerousness of radioactive contamination, the east german government kept it secret! This was admitted by the former german Health Minister, 25 years after the Chernobyl desaster. Source: film documentation "Die Wolke – Tschernobyl und die Folgen".
Thanks to the Internet we receive information also from independent observers, thus nowadays people cannot be misinformed very easily.
As far as electronics from Japan is concerned I don't see any issue (as of today), but you never know how the situation is evolving. I make up my mind when the Kronos is actually shipping, and decide then.

Maybe it is not a bad idea to invest in a geiger counter instead, and offer a "radioactivity check service for anxious musicians" for a small fee?

orpheus: Probably that sort of idea stirs things up further, and I ask you to keep it to other place, if you please.

I was originally here to help - only about the status of delivery of Kronos in Japan.

Something went wrong and I reacted in the way I should not.

BTW I am not scared at all, and I tried to explain the reason, and that really stirred things up badly. So I stop.

As you are not a scientist either, I'd suggest you do what you already suggested to Ozy: stop selling your opinion and stop talking about thinks you know nothing of in a way like you would know something of.
