But seriously, considering I just bought a Kurzweil PC3, the PC3 on top, a KRONOS 88 on bottom. Although if I had the money, a Jupiter-80 on top instead.

forgot one... I think a VAX77 would be a very cool board to put under a Kronos 61... especially since it has polyphonic aftertouch, which the Kronos can respond to (even though its own keyboard doesn't have it)... and people have said it is a good feeling action for piano.

This after reading all of your answers and thoughts I have changed my mind.

Will get the Kronos 61 for my TOP and keep my Kurzweil K2600XS on the bottom for piano ect......

Love the Kronos Hammond type sounds and really dont think I need a fully weighted keys for that. Love the K2600 and was thinking about ditching that for the full 88 Kronos.

Other keys I have is the Ensoniq TS12 and Korg O1WfD. Dont ever think I will give up the OW1fD lol.

For me it will be a Kronos 61 on top and an 88 key controller on the lower tier.
Three reasons:
a) As others have said before, the Kronos 88 is still quite a substantial piece in terms of size and weight. There are better alternatives in this respect.
b) There are good 88 key controllers or stage-pianos with hammer action which still are pretty affordable. So I will be have two of those, one sitting in my little studio at home (for practice and sound design) while the other will always remain in the rehearsal space. Thus, I only need to bring the relatively transportable K 61 along for rehearsals.
c) I want the K's control surface to be freely accessible, which would be difficult to achieve if it were sitting on the lower tier with some other board above.

EDIT: To name a specific board: I will probably continue using my Kawai Pianos for that. I've grown very fond of them. If the MP5 should ever go down, I might replace it with an MP6.

If the rumoured prices in the UK are correct it would be (a bit of a cheat) -
Sonar X1, Roland Juno G as workstation and a Prophet 08 for real analogue and aftertouch, loads of VST from Arturia, FM08 from NI...

OH... and no Kronos.

Which is a bit of a shame since I just downloaded the OASYS parameter guide to read about the MS20, MOD 7 and STR-1, all very interesting but if Korg get it wrong, academic.

Well, I already have the V-Machine and PC3K8 (and, not to forget, Korg X5D!

). Probably getting that Blofeld Keyboard next, then Kronos.

I too like to have a weighted board plus a synth action board for live work. I currently gig with an M3-88 on the bottom and a Roland Fantom X7 on the top. My first step is going to be to swap the M3-88 for a Kronos 73... that'll give me the power of the K in a smaller lighter package on the same weighted keybed that I'm already accustomed to. I was hoping for a new Roland Fantom workstation replacement to be released at the Musikmesse to replace the X7, but the Jupiter 80 isn't it, not for me anyway, it's physically too damned big.

That leaves considering soldiering on with the Fantom X7 (though it's starting to show its age) or considering either a Nord or the new Yamaha MOX-6.

I think it would be easy to make the Kronos 76 with semi weighted keys since they already made the 61 key version. The exterior just needs an extension to get room for the additional keys. But I would think Korg knows best about the demand for 76 semi-weighted keys and if it's high enough.

Personally I look forward to the Weighted 73 key version.
I've tested the Korg SV-1 to be able to feel how the RH3 keys are. And I love how they feel.

Tooling up for a new enclosure is an expensive proposition. The cheaper way to do it would probably be to see if they could retrofit a semi-weighted 76 keybed into the existing 76-key enclosure. Not that there's any reason to believe they have any interest in doing this.

For me K-61 and K-88 spaced relatively close together I am hoping the new screen set list mode can be triggered through MIDI functionality. As to be able to do either select K-88 programs from the K-61 or use a berringer FCB1010 to select set list mode on both. I have an OASYS 76 and love it and will mostlikely sell it. I listed it on e-Bay once but pulled the auction because my fear that the Kronos will be delayed. But the OASYS 76 with its large touch screen is difficult to place on bottom and way to large and heavy for the top. Anyway I am looking forward to having a K61 for it's light weight and the ability to carry it more often.

A sensible solution might be to cover all the keybed bases -- a Kronos-61 on top, and some sort of 88-key hammer action affair on the bottom.

But I really don't have all that much interest in becoming a pianist, regardless of any benecial effect that playing on a hammer-action keybed may or may not have on one's technique.

So I'd rather have a Kronos-61 and some type of wild 61-key boutique synth -- a V-Synth GT (or GTO, if it turns out to be awesome), a Poly Evolver, a Solaris, or a Voyager XT. Any one of the above would be fine, really.

I had my answer before the question was asked, i will be changing my whole rig this year from the k2661 and the m3 to the kronos 61 and the pc3k7, if they're ever released.

can't wait.
