Programs
Hey everyone.
First Radias post from me...usually I can be found in the Oasys section.
Anyhoo...I got what I am sure is a pretty stupid question: I have my Radias Rack sitting next to my M3 and I got to thinking that I want to hear some 'other' sounds for it. 'Cept I'm not sure how to install new programs into the unit. It is nowhere near a computer and, in fact, my entire studio is nothing more than a huge MIDI rig. Am I screwed? I was thinking that I would just plug in a thumb drive....oh but NO! There is no such port in the rear of the Radias. Just the "receiving" port for a USB cable.
Thanks in advance and sorry for my ignorance here...especially if this has been discussed. My searches in this forum have never yielded any good results so I gave up on that long ago.
Cheers.

The most effective way to get patches to (and from) the Radias is through the Librarian editor on a computer, preferably using a USB cable.
You can use the editor over standard MIDI too, but the USB provides a much higher throughput which results in a faster loading time.

I use the editor via midi to upload sounds to my Radias.
Was really useful for me as I had a whole bundle of 'favourite' MS2000B sounds that went straight into the Rad. Brilliant!

If you're doing simple Librarian backup and recall the minimum requirements are as follows:xmlguy wrote:The computer should be at least an i7-2600K or better CPU.
WINDOWS XP:
Home Edition / Professional Edition Service Pack 1 or later.
CPU: Intel Pentium /Celeron 500 MHz or faster.
Memory: 256 MB minimum, 512 recommended.
Monitor: 1024 x 768; 16-bit color or higher.
MAC OS X
Version 10.2.8 or later.
CPU: Apple G4 400 MHz or better.
Memory: 256 MB minimum, 512 recommended.
Monitor: 1024 x 768; 32000 colors or higher.
Shouldn't be more than $200 to find a laptop with those specs. Then you would have a dedicated comp for patch storage in your setup.

The minimum requirements for a synth editor are much lower than for a DAW for audio production, which is what I recommended. If you're going to have a computer next to the keyboards, it might as well be able to be used for the full range of audio tasks, not merely for running editors, in my opinion.
A netbook perhaps would do the job, although I don't know bout the screen size and resolution.
I have an old P-III think pad here I'm trying to get back up and running which likewise would probably be fine for librarian duties.
However I already run a full DAW setup, just need the massive LCD screen xmlguy mentions

It wasn't too long ago that large 20"+ screens cost $1,000-$3,000 alone. Once the price fell near current levels, I think it's crazy not to take advantage of them. And once you get used to big screens, it's hard to go without them, at least in the studio. In 2008 I hooked up my PSR-S900 to a 32" LCD with it's composite video port. Now when workstation manufacturers boast about the new "larger" 10" LCD, I just laugh.X-Trade wrote:A netbook perhaps would do the job, although I don't know bout the screen size and resolution.

Hey Guys.
Thanks for the info. Took me a while to check back but I really appreciate the input. I think xmlguy has a good point. And yea, I'm still recording all my song in synth sequencers, i.e., Oasys, M3, XS7, and such. I just think it's silly that there is not a way to load sounds into the Radias w/o a computer...**sigh
Regards.
