uhm...

I seem to remember a FM section in the sy99, but I owned it for maybe a month, and it was many many years ago.

I am probably wrong. Boy, it was so hard to program, it looked like an FM synth (but sounded indeed like a rompler, that's why I ditched it)

GOOD GOD no. The 77 & 99 are most certainly NOT romplers...... (trying to see where I gave that impression)

They are SO much more than that - but the presets are woeful. You need to spend time editing them - so far I'm up to 18 years...

Starting to get somewhere now!!

Dan
The MOD-7 synthesis from the OASYS and KRONOS is essentially the RCM-Synthesis from the Yamaha SY99 and SY77 on steroids: FM-Synthesis with 6 Operators where Samples can be used as modulator or carrier. You can exactly reproduce any SY99/77-Sound with MOD-7 apart from the PCM samples which are of course different in OASYS/KRONOS. SY99 uses 8MB ROM and SY77 4MB (AWM)-samples.

WHAT IS WITH YOU PEOPLE?
If you haven't already realised, let me explain.
Everyone knows you are full of $hit.

Seriously man, look, enough is enough. I feel your totally helpless and entirely out of control with your lies. So much so that I would actually be doing you a favour if I banned you at this stage. I'm really thinking that this is the best thing for you too. This place is actually making you worse as you can't help yourself from telling lies.

Like seriously, do you think anyone believes you when you say you have 48 Triton's and 8 OASYS keyboards as well as a mountain of other gear ?

It's all gone beyond a joke at this point.

Actually, the SY synths were romplers. 50% rompler anyway.

They were 50/50 rom samples based and FM based, with 16 voices of each, and some pretty good sounding filters. They were the first FM synths to offer both filtering of FM patches, and using rom samples in the FM operators. They still are nifty synths.

Yeh, I was a bit hasty with my rompler comment, although I still am coming to terms with it!!
tbh, I don't really delve too much into the AWM side, even now..... kinda wished I'd got a '99, as then I could stick my own samples in it, but they are a tad rare over in the UK.
Come to think of it, there was also a 1u rack that sat with the Wavestation A/D - plugged into the PCM slot: you could load Akai samples etc into it......

Pointless now the Kronos is imminent!

Anyhoo, side-line. Let's hear more of the SY77 love.
Yamaha SY77 & KX88, SSL Nucleus, Korg Kronos 61, Wavestation A/D, Access Virus B, Roland XP30, DeepMind12D, System 1m, V-Synth XT, Focusrite Red16Line, Unitor 8, Akai S3000 XL, Alesis Quadraverb+, Focal Shape Twins, Full fat iMac, Logic Pro X, ProTools 2021, loadsa plugins.

answer 1): "483 tons of what, Sir? And where is your barge parked?"

answer 2): wink wink, nod nod, "the perfect gift for the man who has everything, right?"

answer 3): "oh, congratulations, Sir! Your synth loving girlfriend must be expecting: she's got cravings!".

PS: re SY99. Right. I remember that there was a FM component in it. Nice. My Alzheimer is not so advancing after all.

Anyone remember Synthia from this forum ?

She didn't have 48 Triton's and 8 OASYS's like Sina172, but she did have one digital camera to prove she wasn't crackers. Future Music even did an article on her large collection of synths.

Sharp.
