HOW DO I UPLOAD FACTORY SOUNDS (Accidentally Wiped TR)

Post by KaptainKrust »

Hi,

I was trying to reset my newly purchased TR-76m last week by following some instructions i got off a google search.
The result was that I accidentally wiped all of my factory patches (COMBI, PROG etc.)
for example in the COMBI section, All the patches are now: InitialCombiA100, InitialCombiA102, InitialCombiA103 etc.
and the sounds are bland MIDI piano noise, not atcual TR patches.
I've uploaded the OS version1.04 from off the Korg website, via MicroSD, but that made no difference. Where can I find and download the original patches as well as newer upgraded patches unto my TR?
PLEASE ADVISE!

Thanks

Kap,

Program data is contained in .PCM files. You can find the factory PCMs plus a bunch of other voice data at the LE/TR section of the download page... which is accessed from the korgforums homepage www.korgforums.com [no extension].

If you have the stock editor for your keyboard you can upload directly to your TR from your computer.

Bill,

Thanks for your response. What is the stock editor? where do I get it, and how doe sit work in this particular case?

Also I just looked at the Forum and most of the files that people have posted are PCG types. None of them are described a sthe Factory patches. Where exactly do I find them please?

Thanks

I think there was an editor on a CD Rom that came with the original documentation. Looking at Korg USA's site there's no mention, and no downloads other than OS and MIDI drivers so maybe I'm mis-remembering that there is one.

-------------

You're right. There's no factory pcg on the download page. It's in the TR already.

http://www.korg.com/uploads/Support/TR_ ... 170000.pdf

Link: is for the pdf op manual for the TR - pg 48 has the restore settings procedure (found in global menu).

Give it a shot. Should restore (baseline) all factory settings rather than the "toy piano" init (fresh start) sounds you have now. BTW, INIT is a program template that sets every parameter to "enough to make a sound" for you to be able to design your own sounds from scratch where scratch is audible. The parameters are all about as low as they can go - and so wimpy by default - and since piano is the first ROM sample, all INIT sounds are piano sounds. INIT on older synths was a true all-values-zero reset... many tragic stories in the archives about that.

Uploading Patches ... Programs... Kits etc.

Bill,

Thanks, you were right; all i had to do was re-load the factory settings!
One more question, if I want to upload some of the programs & patches from this site, how do I do it?
Must I DL the PCG or PCM files into my MicroSD and then insert into the TR and follow some sort of auto prompts, or is the process more complicated?

Thanks

Kap,

Providing you can get them on to an SD card (I'm assuming this is the preferred media for the TR) then there should be either a dedicated media button (as there is on the T-rex, which I own) or a "card" activating button on the front panel (this has been the convention since floppy disk was the built in storage device).

You should be able to select a PCG directly from that menu. You'll need to dig down a bit to get to programs or combis -- you should be able to audition programs before loading, too; i know that's the case on the other Tritons.
