Small Dilemma involving Radias and R3

Post by jake88 »

I bought the Radias about a year ago, and pretty much only used the preset programs on it, as i'm not that into sound editing. The only program I use on a daily basis is the fusion lead. I've been thinking for a while that i'd be better off with an R3. I like the idea that it's a separate keyboard (right now my Radias is on the rack with my M3-88).

Would it be a dumb move for me to sell my Radias, or trade someone for an R3? (Keep in mind it's the Radias-R, without the kbd)

I greatly appreciate any input or advice.

I love my R3 but would rather have a Radias. It has so much more possibilities than the R3. Like Robbin said learn how to program your Radias as you will regret that trade.

You will probably regret the trade if you ever get into synthesis, but

I'd be willing to do it if you want to- and maybe throw in an extra $125 for the value difference.

That being said, the Radias does have a lot more for synthesis options, though the R3 is still a great synth.

If you're wanting to trade to get new sounds, you can actually just download the R3 editor from Korg's website and all the additional patch files. Load them into the program and it will show you all the adjustments to make which can be carried over to the Radias. In the process, you'll actually learn how to program sounds, plus get to keep the Radias. You can also do this with VST synths. There's hundreds of free ones with preset sounds on the net. Just look at how the patches are created and carry them over.

Let me think about it. Where do you live? As i'm sure you know, it's fairly small and doesn't weigh a lot, but if you're anywhere near me, we could just meet.

Even if i don't want to interfere in tpantano's (possible) bussines (and I know how much he would love to upgrade to a Radias) he was fair to say what most users here have done:

Why you don't install the sound editor and load the several patches available around here and give them a testdrive? You even can load the R3 factory patches converted to the Radias, so you could hear what the R3 has inside. I am sure you will find a lot of sounds that will give you new ideas! If you don't do that, you will give away a very good synth without even having scrached under its surface. Changing it for a R3 wont change nothing besides the keyboard. If the keyboard is what you wish, you can buy a sepparate MIDI KB or just a used KB-synth.

The R3 is a lesser version of the same synth as the Radias. It also has a much more compact and less intuitive programming interface paradigm.

There is nothing you will gain in such an exchange, other than a few extra keys. Best to do would be to learn to program the Radias or at least try out some of the freely available patches - including those made by myself

Well, How much is a Radias-R worth these days?? One that's about 1 year old.
