Korg Kontrol 49 - What are the drum pads like?

Post by womoma »

Hi guys.

There is a local guy selling a Kontrol 49 for 150 euro. I'm tempted, but only if the drum pads are worthwhile.

I've read conflicting opinions on what the drum pads are like on the Kontrol 49. I know they are different from the PadKontrol, but the PK has some of the best pads around.

So, if the Novation Remote pads score, say, 1/10, the M-Audio Axiom pads score 3/10, the AKAI MPK pads score 6/10, and the PadKontrol scores 9/10 ....

Where would the Kontrol 49 fit in?

Are they almost as good as the PadKontrol? Or almost as bad as the Novation Remote pads? :D

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Doesn't matter, I bought it in the end. The pads are fine. Not as good as the PadKontrol pads, but certainly good enough for some dynamic drumming.

My main concern was that they might need to be struck really hard to get a response (like the Novation Remote drum pads) -- but they respond well to a little tap or press.

In short, (for anyone who might be wondering about the Kontrol 49) I would prefer the pads on the Kontrol 49 to the pads on the Axiom. They're about the same quality as those on the MPK, though they feel a bit different, more "buttony".

..... and there's 16 of the suckers, not 12.
