im thinking of picking up an R3. ive been using an ms2000 for a long time, i like it a lot and get a lot of use out of the mod sequencer. but something that totally bugs me is that its mod sequencer wont retrigger the amp env. so if youre sequencing pitch the melody has pretty much got to be legato (just one attack when you first press the key and no more attacks after that, until you restrike a key). at least ive not figured out how to do that yet...
does/can the r3's lone mod seq retrigger the volume envelope as it's playing a melody (or whatever)?
can the R3's mod sequencer retrigger the amp envelope?

One trick would be to set the arpeggiator at the same tempo, and stick it in 'trigger' mode. Or use it as an arpeggiator outright for more crazy stuff. That'll take care of the note retriggering for you on either machine.
The modulation sequencer is NOT really a musical note sequencer, which is why it does not retrigger the envelopes although I can see why people would want it, but it is not technically designed that way. For example I know for certain that the modulation sequencer in the Radias and R3 is actually polyphonic and can start from the start for each note, which is kinda cool as you can use it as an additional envelope or triggered LFO of sorts.
You could also use a temposynced sawtooth LFO as a kind of envelope itself to give a more staccato feel.
The Radias on the other handfeatures actual musical note based sequencers which can hold up to eight notes per step (chords!), and can also be used to trigger the powerful internal drum section.

Sorry what I meant about the arpeggiator is that if you're not using it as an arpeggiator, you can set it to 'trigger' mode and it will constantly re-trigger whatever note(s) you've got held down at the arpeggiator rhythm & tempo.
I had a feeling the MS2000 mod sequencer was the same but didn't say anything as I've only used the microKorg and the Radias.

well as the arpeggiator is playing out it will be playing the mod sequencer too.
I'm not sure exactly how that doesn't fulfil your requirements.

huh! i reread the suggestion. actually yes, it does come very close to doing what im looking for, except that it wont do rests or tied notes. but still, it's WAY closer to doing it. thank you!
unfortunately, the way i use it is often with an arp on timbre 1 only, and a mod seq on timbre 2. so it wouldnt work there either. but still, it does get me closer, thanks
good to know the r3 will do it that way too. speaking of which, im finding it hard to find this info so far - does the r3 have only one mod sequence?
