Downtempo ambient pads/question

Synth1 is a free VST softsynth that you can download. It has a very similar design to the R3 that's useful for experimenting. I'm back with my R3, however, and I just confirmed that the DWGS VoxPad2 wave is exactly what you need for OSC1. Set the Wave parameter to DWGS and the Wave Select parameter to 52:VoxPad2. The rest is just FX and fine tuning. I recommend IFX1=Ensemble, IFX2=St.Delay (set Type to Cross), and MFX=Reverb (Hall), with all the FX fully wet. The Envelope EG2 ADSR should be set similar to 26, 52, 87, 122. That gives a pad shape with a slow but noticeable attack, with a slow pad release. I also set OSC to a slightly detuned square wave in the background, and the wave shaper to a SubOscSquare set to PreFilter1 to add a deeper bass undertone. This gives a very full pad sound - the choir is for the root notes, OSC2 gives a detuned depth, with the WaveShaper a bass undertone. Putting the Filters into serial mode with Filter1 as LPF24 with a low centerpoint and Filter2 as COMB lets you cutoff the highs and emphasize the harmonics. You can use LFO1 and LFO2 to add some motion to the filters. This makes a very lush pad without losing polyphony by avoiding Unison.
