Radias Programm changes - data dump with Ableton

Post by darquebus »

Hope I am asking not a dumb question here, but I wanted to save the radias program with a song in ableton. I guess it must be possible. Otherwise I have to fire up the editor select the program. How do I send a program from the radias to ableton so I can later just send it back and radias is set up. Or is there even some sort of ableton plugin or so that could be used...?

Also does the radias send out data when I move one of the knobs, and can they be recorded?

You can call up a program on the Radias using Ableton Bank, Sub-Bank and Program Clip Parameters. You can not save a dump with Ableton though due to its MIDI filtering. Do you plan on using more than 256 programs on your Radias sometime soon?

Yes, the Radias sends and receives MIDI data.

Thanks!

Where or how do I find these Ableton Bank, Sub-Bank and Program Clip Parameters? I assume I need to program these in the midi editor window of a track? Or is there "program switch" tool - like the midi arppegiator you just drag onto the track?

Create a new MIDI clip, under the Notes section you will find the 3 drop down menus. In the Radias Manual you find the MIDI to Program chart to call up programs. Remember, Ableton uses 1-128 not 0-127.

tried all the knobs and they all send the data and I can then easily edit in ableton...so far so good. and again thanks for tips...but I noticed the tempo is not connected to a midi controller.
I had tried to set the time on the global page to Auto and to USB (thats how the radias is connected) but it doesn't pick up the tempo set in the DAW. Everything else works perfectly. How do I get the DAW to send the tempo info to the radias..is the problem on the radias o the DAW side?

Go ahead and switch it to external clock. Next check under the ableton prefs that all 3 of the buttons are lit for the radias MIDI bus.
