What I find strange is that after all those demos has'nt this apparent problem been noticed before they were shipped out to dealers!
Either,
there was not a problem with the batch of demo machines - so what has changed?
or
this problem did show itself on the demo machines and nobody took a blind bit of notice!
As I said, I find this strange.

OK here are better pics..
Lou You cant bend this as it is plastic. There are 4 larger notches and 4 smaller ones in between. It looks to me as though the tape fits into the notch of the drum on the bottom circuit board. It is a definitely weird pot!!
It does not take much side pressure to get it off.. not like a stove knob or metal shaft knob pot.

is it possible to use stronger double sided tape (3M) or velcro to secure the knob? that tape on the data knob is very worrisome design flaw in a $3000 workstation, I don't recall even the M3 being built that cheap wondering if Japan disaster led to this poor quality control (trying to finish and release the units ASAP?? )

I want to slap the taste out of the mouths of the individuals that designed this data wheel.
I have to repeat...that this is the worst data wheel of any workstation I have ever owned (Triton Studio, Fantom X & G, and Motif ES). I own a 14 year old MPC 2000. I have never had a problem with its data wheel.
Adding stronger tape is not a good fix. The data wheel needs to be redesigned. Perhaps the data wheel should have a shaft that slides into the hole at the bottom of the pot???

OK. You have not said if the ring of the data wheel fits over the outside or inside of the pot ring. It looks like it fits inside the pot ring and locates on the two black 'pegs' near the bottom.sparkie wrote:OK here are better pics..

If that is the case then the only contact points for the tape are the top surfaces of those black pegs and possible, where the tapes folds over the sides of the data wheel ring.
If the data wheel does not 'bottom' fully into position then maybe the tape will not even reach those two black pegs.
From what I can tell, the best short term solution maybe to remove the tape and put a small amount of 'blue-tack' on each of the two black pegs. Also, some standard, clear, sellotape could be wrapped around the outside of the data wheel ring so that the 'tacky' side faces outwards (overlap at the ends to get it to stay in place). Wrap enough times around to get the proper 'fit'. When the wheel is refitted the blue-tack will hold at the black pegs and the sellotape will stick to the sides (I think).
