Thinking about getting the exb FW

I want to be able to seq Korg legacy and record into the m3 after I seq the tracks. I understand how to do it analog ins but, I want to know if I can do it through FW card. I notice it have 2 ins and 6 outs. In the past I never thought about getting it cause I heard it had problems. What kind of problems did it have and did korg fix it? Can Korg legacy from my computer through FW? Will I hear the Korg Legacy through FW as I am in seq mode making loops?

Hi BigGrime,
There are still some minor latency issues when using the EXB-FW firewire card.
Ultimately, it will do everything that you're asking.
It's going to take some experimentation on your part to find the drivers and settings that minimize the latency issues to acceptable levels.
One suggestion that I've seen is to externalize the MIDI control to free up bandwidth for the audio (this would be some of the experimenting).

I've done a fair amount of research on this, as I had a similar need and consideration.

IMHO,
Firewire is superior to USB in the ability to carry MIDI, audio, and network communications in one medium.

Do you know if they have sorted out the problems I've read about using the EXB-FW on Windows 7? That's kept me from buying the expansion card...

actually, Apogee just released the Duet 2 which is USB 2.0. They said it performed better in terms of latency over the famous firewire Duet 1.

Big grime, you making the step towards using a computer now bro? Good stuff. I know you don't like DAW's, but they make it a lot easier, seriously.

For 7 years use sonar 100% to create tracks. So I have experience using computers to create. The work flow is not together. I do like Korg legacy plug ins and Native Instruments battery 3. That's its. I would use them as stand alone not in a software DAW

oh yea that's right. I use Ableton live. and it is pretty awesome. But since it doesn't receive SysEx, it sucks for karma/midi
