Post by franzlp »

I would love to know what professional sample packages folks have been able to load on the Oasys. Specifically non- karo packages as we know those were made specifically with the Oasys in mind. Please do chime in as we often overlook that the Oasys is a sampler too.

I use ILIO World Winds (By Dirk Campbell). It's a very good AKAI format library of ethnic wind instruments.

Apart from that, only Sharp-Dan's Enigma flute is permanently on my OASYS.

I plan to locate good Ethnic and Orchestral Percussion too - especially looking for good Timpani, Orchestral Bass and Gong.

Nope, if you select the AKAI Partitions and use the AKAI Advanced Import option, the OASYS will actually load the sounds just as good as my AKAI S5000 Sampler.

I like also spectrasonics/ilio vocal planet:

and the quantum leap Akai brass. But it has to be
S1000 format. I have many others.

Hi,

I also have the Symphony of Voices converted on the HDD and in addition to that I converted an old Akai CD called Hyper Space which has some street athmos, cars, trains and stuff like that.

best regards

Very nice selections. Please chime in with what you've successfully loaded on the Oasys. One additional and separate question... I know and have used the Karo grand pianos libraries , but has anyone loaded any other grand piano libraries out there successfully? I guess I am also interested in any Boesendorf libraries that have been loaded because the Karo versions seem a bit nasally to me in the midrange. Any thoughts?

That is very interesting that you say that - I completely agree that the Karo Bosonderfer sound nasally in the midrange.

But - if you apply a little EQ - around 550 - 600Hz at -4 to -5 dB and a touch +dB in the Bass, it transforms it. I actually posted on that when I originally purchased it.

I have no experience of a real Bosendorfer, but I felt exactly as you indicate - that somehow the Bosendorfer just didn't sit right out of the box, but the little bit of EQ, to my ears, genuinely transforms that piano and it somehow sounds more airy, more natural and full of depth and certainly character.

With that little bit of EQ, I really enjoy playing it - it's among the most enjoyable of the sampled pianos I own – and I recommend you tweak it to your liking – I’m sure you can get it to ‘come alive’ for you. I also make sure to balance the volume I play back both over speakers and headphones to give it a little more room and space, dynamically when playing.

Re. Symphony of Voices - it's VERY expensive, for its age.

Kevin,

Thanks for your recommendation I will report back as to how it works out for me. Staying on the theme of your email have you set of recommendations for eq's or effect enhancements (internal or external) for the other pianos in the Karo Grand piano collections as I own them all? Personally I feel the best is the Bechstein. Any detail in your recommendations would be very much appreciate as I am always looking to make these pianos even better sounding.

Kevin,

I tried your suggestion and it seemed to improve the mix somewhat. Would you tell me which Boesendorf program number you used this on? I think you can say the mids went from sounding like "dwang" to "de-ang". I wish it would sound more like "dong" or more like the Oasys EX2 piano. What think you?

Hi Franzlip -

Just a quick reply to say that it'll be a day or two to get to that. I have other work pressing and also the OASYS in another very different state so I need to back it up and reload the pianos. But of course you are absolutely correct - the actual program is very important and I haven't used these pianos several months. But I'll get to it soon and get back to you.

Cheers,
Kevin.
