Anyone using Bose L1 MK II?
Hi all,
Is anyone using a Bose L1 mkII PA system with their Korg? If so can you advise your experiences so far with it?
Thanks,
Dennis

Re: Anyone using Bose L1 MK II?
Hi Dennis, I've been using Bose L1 model II with tonematch and two Subs for over a year now. This system is not a replacement but rather an addtition to the loud speaker system. If the gig doesn't involve any hardcore dancing, that's they only system I take with me. It's great for easy listening, background music and even a small ensemble. It just sits right next to you, with no cable running on the floor... you hear all the details crystal clear that would otherwise get lost in traditional loud speakers. It does a great job in dispersing the sound in the hall... I always had this problem in small venues where the sound was too hot for people in the front row, but not so loud for the people in the back... I would constantly get the please turn it down/up request..but not with this system no more. On the other hand, if you're looking for a sytem that needs t drive a dance party in a big venue..etc..this is definitely not the right system, unless you get like 4 of them! This system is not meant to be turned up very loud.miden wrote:Hi all,

Thanks Sam.
I usually play to audiences of around 150 people or less, so maybe one of these with two subs as you have might work nicely. I have read and heard a lot about the mk II sound, and I am getting tired of lugging two top boxes two subs a power amp and all the cabling to be honest...
So the Bose might just fill the bill..

Hi Dennis,
Sam is right on all counts. Like yourself, we play to a max. of 150 or so with our Bose L1 II with a single sub (it is possible to chain a second sub for more oomph) and the ToneMatch T1 unit, and it does the job perfectly. Everything goes through it, my Pa1XPro, lead and harmony vocals and the sound distribution is superb - you always know your balances, no need for monitors.
The ToneMatch is a must, though. You can go straight into the 1/4" jack on the base of the column itself, but the ToneMatch is a piece of work in itself. Take a look here: http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/sho ... ch_acc.jsp
Bose's website and wiki is the best I've seen, and their user forum is just top notch. The information content is vast. We've been using this system for about eight months now and there's no way we'd go back to a conventional PA. Have fun.
Best regards, Giner.

Hi Dennis, I can definitely check it for you, but im' not going back to my studio until late sunday. If no body responded till then, i'll let you know.miden wrote:Thanks Giner...
Also if I migh ask a small favour, could you guys check for me on the power supply plate and tell me what it says?
For example, does it say 110-250V, or is it a fixed supply for the US as in just the 110v?
Thanks. I am looking to buy one, but the price out here is ridiculous.
Dennis
Not much to go on, Dennis, but on mine at the point where the mains cable goes into the column base it's labelled:
110 -120V
50/60 Hz
500 W
So it's a fixed voltage for this market. Oz is on 220V, right? Were you thinking of buying one from North America because of the high price over there? That sucks big time. I've heard Pete, yourself and others bemoan electronics prices in Oz, but by the time you get shipping costs, trade tarriffs, the warranty question, and all that stuff, I don't know you'd be any further ahead?
Good luck anyway, Giner.

That's the info I needed. Means that the power supplies are specific to countries. Damn!! I would have to use a step down transformer (and extra $120+ for a quality unit) if I bought one from the US.
Out here, with the Tonematch, it is just over $4k, and that does not include the extra sub!!
Oh well might have to wait a bit longer.

Hi Dennis,
I work with the Bose L1 modell1 with a single bass ( I have two ).
After I had some help with tuning the Tonematch I play now with
one bass module. The power is great also for outside performing.
You don't need the extra sub, it all comes together with
how you program your Tonematch.
Dirk Schurmans ( also a member on this forum ) has helped me out,
and man what a power.
It;s a great system that also can be use for bigger performances so I completly disagree with Assyrianpianist. When I turn up the volume
many roof is come down so to speek. But the very important thing
is that I can play in any room where I want, I only have to set the master
volume and the rest is already set and ok. It's just like when you turn up the volume of your stereo everything is turned up in one level.
In the beginning I've had problems with the microphones, all kind of different noises, etc, my pa2 went down in volume, etc, etc.
Now it's perfect, thanks to Dirk for his great help.
If you also want help with that just sent Dirk a email and he will help you
out. Dirk is in Belgium a professional musician and works also with the
Bose L1 modell 2 with one basmodule and he performes in small but also in very big rooms. Just with one bas module. He also has the Bose compact set, he performes for about 150 people with that set without any problems.
The Bose l1 modell 1 or 2 or the Compact set are really great
pa systems for small and big events.
Ron.

I love my Pa2 with the XMS-64 stick.
Cheers, thanks Ron...great information. I might just contact Dick if I end up buying one. As I said it will cost over $4000 out here and I am still not FULLY convinced of going to a mono system, from my present stereo.
I would like to buy two of these systems, but I don't have a spare $8k!!!
Anyway, again, great info form another actual stage user of the Bose system.

Hi Dennis, long time no speak/write on this forum!
Let's make this short:
1. We've been using the Bose Model 2 since it came out for EVERY type of gig from Oldies/easy listening/country etc to the very latest Dance remixes to Rocky Pub gigs and it is BRILLIANT. We use the Packlite and 2 extra subs for bigger gigs, turn up and BAM - beautiful!
Simple as that.
2. I bought an extra T1 Mixing Desk in France, (with power supply) and have been told there is no Power problem (Direct from the Bose Forums) re Australia, just need a new Australian Power Socket - easy to get.
3. Don't worry about the Mono/Stereo thing - really that issue has been flogged to death re the Bose. The PA is a MONO system but the crystal clear 'Surround Sound' makes that whole issue a moot point. Top professionals and Touring Acts in large venues all use Mono systems and in the smaller clubs (where we all play - in the real world) you'll find irregular rooms where the Stereo field is lost to people around corners, at the back of the room etc.
The Bose sounds great EVERYWHERE in the room, with ALL Genres.
Do not hesitate!

Just pretend I've written something funny, yet wise and ironic here...
Hey Ron, Can you share what you programmed on the Tonematch to make your PA2X only use 1 Bass Module. I've been using it flat with no eq but then I've been using 2xB1 and sometimes depending on the venue there's almost too much basselvisron wrote: You don't need the extra sub, it all comes together with
